When I got the rear portals, tried them on a sexy SSD housing. Much better than stock SCX10 housings. What do you think? https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4485/...c63e0bee_b.jpgIMG_20160504_134317 |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Pretty sexy axle you got there and those tires just finish it off nicely. |

Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Super nice man!! The cabin worked out amazingly!! D440 |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Thanks guys!! much appreciated Honchojoe, I've used 32dp gears,5mm bore. 12 and 25 teeth |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Was anxious to try the portals as soon that I could but the joy was short: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4509/...4ec5bda8_b.jpg14787717_10211025733510012_564846562_o by pedro azevedo, on Flickr A redesign was needed. Searched inspiration in the high steer arms and found a better design. Dual arms to spread the load. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4491/...161a482f_b.jpgIMG_20170114_165315 by pedro azevedo https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4512/...0e1c694c_b.jpgIMG_20170114_165323 by pedro azevedo https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4499/...2982edc1_b.jpgIMG_20170114_165853 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr These ones were still printed in PLA but the definitive ones will be in carbon reinforced plastic. |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Hi guys, well, I had the first headlights for the 'mog 3d printed but they weren't 100% what I wanted, so armed with fresh noob solidworks skills I tried my best to replicate the real ones: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/atta...g-av-grill.jpg They turned out alright https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4456/...2bfea852_b.jpgIMG_20160615_193259 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4484/...eb6ddbec_b.jpgIMG_20160615_193328 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr Some aluminium foil to spread the light https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4443/...a5225f44_b.jpgIMG_20160616_113125 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr I think they look better.. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4473/...1c146e7e_b.jpgIMG_20160617_113854 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4493/...7dfeeac6_b.jpgIMG_20160617_113908 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr They're mounted on a new bumper that's exactly the same as the old one. Had to make another because I'd took it to the shop, painted it and someone lost it somehow. Probably thrown into the trash |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals oh wow man that is sweet |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals i have put in thoughts to build a 6x6 but not for sure if i have the patients. i have not yet to get past the cab i got a man cab(bruidercab) AND ITS REALLY NARROW small hex for the wheel and it still sticks out to far using scx10axels your truck looks good |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Quote:
Thanks :) The Bruder cabs are 1/14, I think...I've seen builds with scx10 axles with the same problem as you...you could build one from scratch. And yes, patience is required :). But it's not a daunting task as it may look... |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals First test on the portals before breaking the first portal box. Very slow because I was running a 70t. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwSk5tnOB-U |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals well, let me share the latest updates. I was delaying the new chassis for several reasons. One day, after work, had one of those "now or never" moments, blueprints in hand and 10m later: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4452/...02879dc2_b.jpg Looked out of scale, made of 16mm tubing but the 1:1 blueprints showed 17cm frame rails so it will work out https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4502/...309999de_b.jpg Got a Helios 2sp a while ago on a deal and even if it's a small size 2sp gearbox, that size don't allow being on many builds. This 'mog has plenty of space for one.I don't really need 2sp but I dig the scale looks of it In my current chassis, used a Scx10 skidplate but the new one has to be custom to accommodate the Helios. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4466/...1e44fbf5_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4495/...719ee3c1_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4446/...81e98f33_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4498/...f50bf0ca_b.jpg At ride height https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4492/...8a01aeba_b.jpg Sorted out the links mounts. Not pretty but was the best idea https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4453/...c86bb768_b.jpgIMG_20170131_132754 by pedro azevedo, on Flickr |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Hi guys! I don't updated this for a while but it's slowly going forward, one problem at a time. Well, my new chassis has new link mounts so I have to reduce all the links. Also, the Helios it's longer than the previous transfer box so I needed shorter driveshafts. I could cut mine but my buddy The Gamer needed longer ones and we made a trade The axles weren't really finished. There was some rubbing inside of the portals and against the rim. The rims only needed a bit of machining. Pretty tight,eh? : https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4464/...8416cf62_b.jpg Now I have 2 rear axles looking like this, no frictions. Pretty smooth, actually https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4473/...90f6a493_b.jpg The front parts are a different history. The steering was kind of limited because the dogbone cup was binding on the inside of these axle ends. On the left, stock. On the right, what I had to dremel to solve the problem: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4450/...793989a5_b.jpg And how it looks without the axle housing: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4481/...7b9fd841_b.jpg That's all for now. I'm attacking the rear shock mounts next |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Do you plan on running pass through or and independent shaft to each rear axle? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Quote:
It's like the real one. Front motor going to a transfer box and then to the wheels. The 2nd axle is a pass-through http://i61.tinypic.com/28rh348.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/517atl.jpg |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals small update: For the chassis, wanted better looking rear shock mounts than the previous Some Unimogs are like this: http://www.rallyraidassistance.com/U...20Chassis6.jpg my take on them: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4448/...a5f3e66a_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4505/...c8f2d8e7_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4497/...00cf84cb_b.jpg Had to invert the location of the shock/spring because of the sxc10 axle. Uses a long scx10 spring and these nice 60mm shocks: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4504/...eb0c506b_b.jpg |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Hi! Too much time has passed. Unimog still is a good truck to build but other project stole all the attention. Tired of having all the parts scattered in boxes, assembled everything to have something to look at The chassis progressed slightly. Has a new crossmember, battery craddle and the rear shock mounts are all in place https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4628/...d0ef4f48_b.jpg Already has all the links(i know, Unimogs don't have links...) https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4608/...457958ae_b.jpg Forgive me the lack of torquetubes with photos of ground clearance https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4659/...8166590a_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4619/...f747efa1_b.jpg |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Very nice! The spring mounts look great |
Re: Unimog 6x6 with portals Quote:
Well, was anxious to do the motor mount, inspired by a real one but adapted https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4603/...8877c1c0_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4629/...f34eb984_b.jpg How low the motor sits... https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4670/...b95e414b_b.jpg This engine bay need lot of work but is doable. Was my first scratchbuilt body and my skills improved since 2014(or I'm more confident of being capable to do better stuff) How the truck sits right now. The cab needs to be 15mm lower. Was on top of the rails on the photo... https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4657/...2999ea4e_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4613/...62f48515_b.jpg |
