i dont have a welder, and i have never used jb weld. could i use it to make my own tube chassis? is jb weld strong enough to hold it all together when it's taking a beating?

JB weld is a fancy "epoxy"....no, I wouldn't use it to build a chassis....you could try if you want........

it will be plenty strong it says "weld" righ in the name, so its gooooooooooootttaaaaaaaa be as strong or stronger then any brazing or welding process cuz it doesnt need to heat the metal and melt it

i beg to differ, IF you know what your doing and use enough of it prep your materials meticulously JB weld will do fine for building a tube chassis, its not going to be easy but i dont see why its not possible, JB weld is amazing stuff, if it can plug a hole in my friends power steering pump, and survive a race day after just over 12 hours, its got me sold

There is a HUGE difference between plugging a hole in a power steering pump and making a chassis. Power steering pumps dont flex, theres a good chance a chassis will.

JB weld doesn't work too well when its going to be flexed around any.

there is absolutly no way it will hold up, think tin can effect, chassis flex is there no matter what, just like 1/1, even welded parts like tanks and such submitted to flex and vibration break, even prepped properly, for the $10 bux you might have saved buyin JB, go get a used torch, can of propane, and some brazing rod, you should be able t get it used for only a bit more!!!

Yea i suppose Jb weld is good enough for crap like my spare tire carrier im working on, though i did drill holes for the hoop to go through the bumper, so its more less holding it in there

But chassis no. Even if it were to hold up, its a pain in the ass to work with on stuff like that

it would surely not work very well...but i think if you used the proper amount jb weld, cable ties, and black tape it would still be the coolest tuber ever...oh and a hose clamp...or two...

no. JB weld is like a strong glue epoxy.

What about fluctuating from 0 to 1500 psi rapidly, and being continuously heat cycled, if a person knew what they were doing with the stuff im pretty sure it would work, would it be fun to do, not really jb is miserable to work with

I tried it and it failed much much worse than I thought it would. I spent nearly 5 hours building this (it was my first attempt ever at building a tube chassis) including measuring, cutting, filing, and JB Welding - in two separate stages. So 20 hours curing time for each cycle, and I made sure to mix the proportions correctly, rought up and clean each surface well, duck-bill the rods for a clean fit, and to use enough JB Weld. Keep in mind this is 1/4" solid aluminum rod.
WARNING! The F-bomb was dropped (objectively) in the following video:

Stress test of JB Weld on Tube Chassis - YouTube

I also made a "T" using 3/16" uncoated steel brakeline, using the same diligence as noted above, with the same effect. I didn't drop it though. I only bent it, and it broke apart as if it was held together with hot glue.

There are many people who swear by it, but I think the surface areas we deal with in the RC world are simply too small. :(

I'm also going to post this up in a few other threads asking about JB Weld, because I saw many people asking about it, and many opinions given, but no evidence showing how well it sucked

try magic steel its a 1-1 ratio i use it at work, then sand it down for a flush fit

Watch some videos of brazing, visit your local weld shop or hardware for a propane torch and brazing rod. Practice with some scrap or cheap material of similar thickness that u will be using. It can always be ground down if u get too much. Rod type is important for what material you use ie: Brass, alum, steel, copper etc... They just use a different rod filler. YouTube is your friend here too. Have fun.

Go to your local hardware store and pick up a map gas torch. Then grab some brake line from the auto store.

At the moment, COAs require a public entity as a sponsor. For example, when BP needed to observe oil spills, they operated the Aeryon Scout UAVs under a COA granted to the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

With rod it coulda/shoulda been drilled, tapped, screwed and JB Weld fillet glued and it woulda held.

You might be able to but it's a pain to work with. In order to do it you would probably need molds of each piece you wanted to create.
