Default Crawler King, SCX10, or Something Else?

I've just been turned on to scale crawling, I'm wanting a budget scale crawler that is not going to break the bank. I'm not going to be competing, just bashing around the hills and creeks and crevices of Kentucky. I'm looking at the HPI Crawler King and the Axial SCX10, or should I be looking into something else. I'm fine with a kit or RTR. I'm probably not going to do any heavy modding to it starting out, but will probably be doing alot of modding to get it as scale looking as possible.

Side question. Looking for a good place to find a body I haven't seen.
Wanting to build a scale replica of a '91 toyota pickup extended cab 4x4.

If I can't find a lexan shell, any toys that I could vacuum form a body from would we awesome also. Or if you know someone who does custom bodies.

Worst case scenario I'll be building an older hilux.

Which do you like the looks of more? Get the one that appeals to you. But the Crawler King SUCKS in performance so if you care at all about that and aftermarket support you'll get the scx10. And as tfor the body just search around. There is a bunch of reading that can be done on here just on toyota pickups.

Yeah but all the toyotas I find are either new toyotas like tundras, or older toyota hiluxs, I can't find anyone who has done one of this body style. This body style is basically a 90's hilux, it's just not called a hilux toyota just called them pickups. It is not a tacoma, it is smaller than a tacoma.

Hence why I said Toyota pickup not hilux or tacoma I've been in the fullsize offroad game for some time now and understand the differences And yes, but the tamiya or rc4wd hilux can be used as a base and you can modify one to your liking using styrene

Sorry, I'm just used to having to explain WHAT toyota pickup it is. Most people call my truck a Tacoma, and if I use the work Hilux, I'm usually greeted with " a high what?".

Don't worry I understand, I've been a mechanic/fabricator of and for offroad vehicles for a long time so alot of stuff I say has to be explained as well.

I think I have finally settled on the Axial SCX10, now I just need to find a good deal on one, I've put out the feelers at the LHSs and are waiting on responses.

My best advice, buy a star here so you can see the classifieds sooner, one can be had that is actually pretty damn nice for pretty cheap.

I've been swayed to something else right now, someone on the LHS forums has a RC4WD trailfinder chassis and 2 Tamiya high lift axles and a high lift 3 speed transmission for sale for $140 thinking about getting those and piecing together the rest.
