Default Newb needs advice for new "toy"

I own a nitro rustler currently and find I don't use it much at all.
It's to dang fast and not feasable for me.

I am looking for something in the electric department.
My driving will be dirt stone and a lot of sand
4x4 required
Not terribly expensive but will last
I want it to be able to drive faster than I can run(think that rules out some crawlers) correct me if I am wrong.

95 percent off road driving with the occationally roadway but not really

Please direct me in a good direction!

If you want rtr I'd say any of the 4x4 AE, HPI or Traxxas short course trucks would do fine. Or a electric monster truck rtr. If you want to build a kit look for something on the Tamiya CC-01 chassis and put a hotter motor in it.

Another option would be the Axial Exo Terra buggy.

It sounds like you want either a wraith or an exo.

Kinda hoping to stay under $200 if possible

Also would I be better starting out with brushed or brushless?

Brushless will give you more run time for the most part if coupled with a lipo. Under $200 is gonna be tough unless you go for something used on eBay or some crazy china brand with no parts support. Redcat has a few things for $249 or so. A buddy of mine has one of their brushless trucks and beats the snot out of it and it keeps coming back for more.

If you are a retro Tamiya nut job then sure. Otherwise no.

You're going to have a tough time finding any quality rc for under $200.
Research the Traxxas Slash 4x4.
A used one will do everything that you're looking for, be fast and durable.

However, if you think you'll really get into the crawling side of RC, then get an Axial truck. (SCX10 or Wraith).

Nothing wrong with being a Tamiya nut. I've been one since 1977.
If its in good shape and in your price range go for it. Finding the manual online shouldn't be a problem. If you go with a motor other than the stock silver can make sure it has bearings and not the stock plastic/bronze bushings.

Guy has that one for under $100.
Don't know if that's a deal and if it will do everything I want it to

All depends on condition and wether it has an ESC or the factory MSC.
It will have problems in grass but do well on all other surfaces. It's a DF-01 chassis and has good parts support. You can even get alloy parts for it.

How can I tell if its Esc or msc.
What do those stand for

ESC = electronic speed control. MSC = mechanical speed control. ESC will only have battery and motor leads. MSC will have batt, motor and resistor leads and be linked to a servo.
