How to remove axle gear bearings?

Good day,

As the title asks. Do I have to take the gear and that little mounting box apart to remove the outer bearings?

I'm talking about once your inside the axle. I really want to clean the bearings as there is some rust on them.

I'm assuming you're talking about the SCX10 axles?

If so, take out the ring gear and locker assembly and then pull the bearings off of the plastic locker housing and the metal ring gear. So, no, you don't have to disassemble the assembly to pull the bearings.

Turns out it was rusted on and I broke it taking it off.

Good thing I have a full set on order. lol

I bought this rig used and all the bearings are rusted so I thought I would take them apart to soak in 3-in-1 oil. Might be able to make something work temporarily until the new ones show up.

Get some Evapo Rust. Submerge the rusty parts in it to dissolve/remove the rust. Non toxic. No fumes. Works great. Advance Auto carries it.

OK so I just finished re-assembling the front and rear axle.

The front bearings were in way better shape. Almost no rust and everything looked new.

Is this normal?
