Default Metal or Plastic Axle Housings?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of using a metal axle housing versus a plastic axle housing on a crawler?

Metal looks sweet most of the time but it doesn't crawl as well since it gets gouged by rocks which halts progress. Alloy is tougher to bash with to a degree but if you really go full retard it will bend and become a paper weight where plastic will deflect or sheer.

depends if your mall crawling or actual trail crawling

plastic slides over rocks much nicer.

What about plastic housings with Beef Tubes? Do the Beef Tubes actually prevent the plastic housings from breaking, or do they tend to stress the part of the plastic housing at the end of the metal tube?

Plastic housing with full with toobs is probably the best function wise. Lower cost, great strength and less resistance on the rocks. That said I'm a sucker for aluminum and big power on my fun rigs. But my comp sporty rolls with plastic and toobs don't worry bout a weak spot with the toobs they really stiffen it all up
