First off, is this your first RC car or truck?...If it is then make sure you budget for a decent charger...

I'd also suggest one of the Axial SCX10 kits so you can learn how to assemble, and disassemble your truck to make repairs and mods...

I think whether you choose a kit or an RTR you're going to need a minimum budget of $450-$500....This should be enough to cover the truck, a radio, a charger, and a couple of NiMh packs.....

I noticed you live in my area, so I'd suggest a trip to Performance Hobbies in Webster. They're good guys there and won't steer you wrong....

I'm new to this board too, but I've raced dirt oval cars in the Western/Central NY area for almost 30 years....I hope this is helpful....

I'm with airbus. Kit is the way to go. You get to put it all together and learn all the inner working. I too live near you guys . We should plan an outing. I have a wraith and 3 scx10s all in working order depending on parts that keep coming in the mail box . Lol. You could find one on fleabays. But make sure you read up on it. And yes Tom and the guys at performance hobbies in Webster are good guys. Dans crafts is ok but I've had a few bad experiences w them. Rtrs get you out ASAP , but will always need something. But are c

Which ever one you think looks the coolest!

All the same chassis, only difference is the body and accessories

Why recommend nimh packs? Lipo is the way to go. More juice in them, and given the same size and weight they have much more capasity.

First trail truck...SCX10.

It is as simple as that.

As for the question about NiMH, I will chime in. I think it is good for the beginner because it is sorta like learning your rig on natural aspiration first before moving to a turbo charger (LiPo).

Some would argue this point, but I actually appreciate my rigs and my LiPo packs more after starting out on NiMH.

Whatever you decide, have fun, and welcome to the boards!

I only suggested NiMh packs because they're cheep, and sometimes you can get a dealer to toss a couple in with the deal.....I still use Nimh Rx packs in my LST2s, but my JRC dirt oval car is LiPo/Brushless powered....I got a message from Performance that right now some of the SCX10s are out of stock from Axial, so since I like the Trail Honcho I might wait till June to order....
