Default New servo, do I need a BEC?

Yes this is a common question, Yes, I AM searching for the answer while you read this .. But I need a fast answer so I can cancel the order before it ships, if I need to.. so while I am searching for the answer maybe someone can answer it for me . . .

I have a 100% stock (electronics) Axial Honcho.

I've just been given an Amazon gift card, and searched out and bought a Hitec HS-645 servo. This is a digital servo. What I am reading on their site says not to use their digital servos on Lithium batteries without a 'regulator'? What are they talking about? Oh, I use a 2cell Lipo, forgot to say (edit).

Again, my Honcho electronics are 100% stock .. is the BEC and reciever in the honcho sufficient to run the Hitec HS-645 servo?

sorry for asking such a well-beaten question, but like I said ... I need an answer quickly enough to cancel the order on Amazon, and while I wait for an answer, I will continue to search for one myself.

Michael, "DieCastoms".

Edit: Update: As a quick update, the forum search is not returning any search results, at all . . . . I do not know why :/

Not really a servo worth buying imo but if you want the most out of your system in would get a bec.

In everybody's opinion!!! I would get a solar 772 for $23 and a castle creations BEC set it to 7.4v (or have local hobby shop do it) & have 415oz of torque & if it dies you want be out of much...$23!!!

If the ~$25 you'll pay for the BEC is the last $25 in your bank account then no, don't buy it.

Otherwise yes, get it. You can't really go wrong in getting a BEC (unless you carelessly overpower your servo).

This is why I don't get (understand) servos. I remember going crazy researching a servo for my RC10.

For the same specs (speed and torque) and components being equal ie. digital, metal gear, coreless, you can spend $23 or $123.

What makes them different? What could be so crappy about this solar that it's only $23???

There is no money at all in my bank account, someone gave me an Amazon gift card so I spend it on a servo and wheel-weight lead.

now i remember why i do not bother to ask questions on these damned forums anymore . . . .

I've been running the truck for two years on the piece of shit stock Axial servo which shorted out to the frame and needs the leads replaced before I can use the truck at all, so *ANYTHING* is better than that, RIGHT?

My question is ONLY as follows:

AM I GOING TO FRY MY ELECTRONICS without a BEC or can I get away with out one until the next time I can afford to scratch my ass?

thanks.

No, sorry, I was just reposting my inquery regarding the difference between a cheap ass servo and a really expensive one when all else seems equal after someone else mentioned that Solar D772.

so according to that amazon link:

Speed @4.8v 0.22
Speed @ 6.0v 0.2
Speed @ 7.4v 0.17

Torque (oz./in) 4.8v 305.8
Torque (oz./in)6.0v 368.35
Torque (oz./in)7.4v 417

Torque (kg/cm) 4.8v 22
Torque (kg/cm) 6.0v 26.5
Torque (kg/cm) 7.4v 30

Length 41.3
Width 21.2
Height 40

Weight (g) 64
Gear Material Metal
Bearing Type Dual Ball Bearings
Digital / Analog Digital
Motor Type coreless
apply for Helicopter/plane/boat/car

This thing is accurately twice the torque of the Hitec at 6 volt, or is that blown smoke to sell more servos?
Does it have a plastic final gear?
Can I GET that final gear if/when I strip it out?
Is the case going to crack near the output with 'back yard' use?
Are the shaft holes/bushings inside going to wear out?

The Axial AS-3 servo has been sufficient up until now, but I am adding weight to the front wheels finally, 5 or 6 ounces each, so I thought now was the time to upgrade the steering servo and set the Axial one aside for the eventuality of getting a 2-speed trans . . . .

The Solar D772 is a great servo. Some here even run it at 8v with no problems. All gears are metal. I had two in my wraith for 4ws. It stalls at 2.86A at 7.4v. I will be getting more for future projects.

I have a solar d772 in my sons rig...they're not bad for the price, but it absolutely needs a bec to get anything out of it.... also I ran a couple hitec 5645 servos in older scx10's of mine and my sons, with no issues (on 1.9 tires) with a considerable amount of weight in the tires...again they worked fine and never gave me any issues...without a bec on either truck (mainly because I was new to crawling and didn't know about bec's)...
