| SCX10 Front Suspension Link Question
For some background, I bought my first "real" RC vehicle this winter and love it. Between the kids and I, we have abused a SCX10 Deadbolt with only minimal damage. I have done a few upgrades but have not touched the suspension links yet. Getting on to the question -- This weekend I had the screw ( AXA440 ) pull through the mount (AX80003 ). I have another mount that came with the kit but putting things back together in the order "A" below seems pretty weak. Is this correct? It seems like the little plastic spacer ( AX80018 ) should be positioned like image "B". The long term solution is to replace the stock links but I would like to get it up and running now. Thanks. The part AX80018 is a ball end (not a spacer) and should be a press fit into the upper hole in part AX80003 (make sure you get the orientation correct as it is flanged, i.e. one end is larger than the other). The screw (AXA440) then goes through the ball end and the spacer (AXA1416) is slid onto the screw. You can then thread the screw into the Y-link (AX80043). Make sure you use the correct spacer (AXA1416) too as different trucks use different sized spacers depending on the wheelbase. The drawing is not very clear and it could have been done a lot better (along with a few more of the drawings too). I used to make drawings like that for a living and it irks me when I see confusing ones. Last edited by Tako_Kichi; 04-20-2015 at 08:11 PM. |

Thanks for the reply and detail. Your description matches with what I was guessing -- it just does not seem that strong of a connection (the ball end/press fit).

When I built my SCX10 Rubicon a few weeks ago I was actually surprised by the amount of force required to get the ball end seated in the mount/bracket. I used a changeable tip screwdriver with no tip inserted so I was in effect pushing with the flat end of the handle shaft. I had to press quite hard before the ball end popped into it's seat. I'm a bit surprised that you pulled the screw head through the bracket though, is it possible to slip a small washer under the screw head before assembly to stop that happening again? |

My sons SCX10 Powerwagon just did this as well with the front upper link. There are parts in the bag to do the four link for the front uppers....my recommendation is just do that.

Reverse the pivot-ball so the flanged end faces outward. That should keep it from pulling through again, as long as the socket it snaps into hasn't been damaged. Also, see if you can find a small washer in your spare-parts box/bin/tin/pill-bottle/whatever that is just larger than the opening in the socket, and put that between the head of the screw and the pivot-ball.

Could always put a washer on the end of AXA440?

I put a washer on mine to fix that. Had to cut the top and bottom off the washer so it would fit under the servo. 4 linking the front with the stock parts put my servo at an angle so I went with the y link with a washer.
