Default Over heating wraith

Need suggestions on regearing my wraith, it is the rtr I ordered, stock ax-5 ESC, I've upgraded the motor to a hpi firebolt 15t motor and 15t pinion gear, stock 56t spur gear, I use a 2s 25c venom lipo, I need to know if I need to upgrade the spur gear to a lower or higher tooth

Or if anyone has done a setup to get a wraith to run faster and stay in cooler temp all suggestions are welcome.

Have you tried dropping down some pinion teeth to see if it helps? Otherwise have you measured the actual temperature of the motor to see if it's actually damaging?

No I haven't actually checked the temperature this is my first time doing regearing and three days ago I installed a 15t pinion gear from a 12t and a week before that I put the firebolt motor, now I get a gnarly smell from the motor so I assumed its from over heating, tomorrow I'll be buying a temperature monitor to actually see if it is

there's your problem the ae 5 max turn is 12t on 2 cells according to axial..try putting 3 cells and see what happens

Changing from a 12t pinion to a 15t pinion will make it faster and likely generate more heat also. You might be fine putting your 12t pinion back on.

You took out a motor that doesn't make much power but has rpm (the stock 20T) & put in a motor that makes even less power,
then geared it up to load that under powered motor even more,
she'll be getting hot n nasty & not in any kinda good way.

You'd be much better off with a 27T Holmes Hobbies LLC
(or the 30T is on sale Holmes Hobbies LLC)
put the 12t pinion back on & run 3s instead.

Use more volts to get power / less gear to reduce load & heat (volt up-gear down)

So these motors are ok for the AE-5....
I'm looking to buy a couple of motor and the 30t is a good price from HH .
would i get the get up go fast factor and the crawling in one....
And thinking of a 16t pinion would it be to much pinion or should i go smaller like the 12t pinion......

Yes those motors are fine on the AE-5. The AE-5 comes with a 27T hung on it in the Deadbolt & Ram SCX10's
Brushed motor limits work down so that is a minimum turn (in this case 12T/18T) what it's saying is you can't run a 10T or 7T, the less turns the more rpm but less torque, but also more current draw if you load it up, more than the esc can handle.

I run 14 pinion on 56 spur with a 3300kv 3s brushless in a U4RC Wraith based rig, it's fast (calculator says 19mph) but it's not Slash 4x4 fast, just as well cos it handles far worse than a Slash.

How fast do you want is the question?
I know it's not quite the same but for example I run a 35T Holmes on 3s 11/56 in an SCX10, it'll zip off up a trail faster than I can be bother trotting after it but I wouldn't call it fast. (calculator says about 6mph) R/C Calculations
A Wraith with essentially the same drive train will be faster cos the 2.2 tyres are bigger.
My SCX10 crawls great, it trails good, it doesn't jump or do any of that stupid junk though, that's what the HPI Apache on 6s is for, right tool for the job so to speak.

OK 35t would be faster then my 55t.My55t is so slow at high speed it can't keep up with me walking but excellent for crawling.
So i try the 30t and 35t thanks for the info...
Now back to the thread...
