Has any one used motor cleaner? How good does it work, what brands are best, are there any alternatives that work good?

I dip my motor in a glass cup and run it wide open. That is what I do because that is what you tube said lol. I watched a video on how to water proof it and that is what it said to do for cleaning the motor.
