Exclamation Axial HD gear install help!!!

So after installing my HD gears in the front and rear of my G6, the front seems to be binding a bit. I know you can shim these. But what I don't understand is knowing the amount of shims. I guess it's trial and error.

I do know if you push the pinion gear to far in, it seems to bind (no not the one on the motor. I'm speaking of the ring and pinion gears) but to far out it does the same. So help me out. What has worked for you and what brand shims did you use. Thanks guys and gals.

traxxas 1985 shims. But if its binding when you pull the pinion shaft out then there is something more wrong. Maybe you over tightened the screws on your axle housing?

Maybe, this thing has had issues with the front of it from out of the box. I build the rear the same and nothing.

If you're using the stock locker, it needs the little paper gasket. If you're using aftermarket lockers, no gasket is needed.

One (or two) 1985 shims between the pinion output and the driveshaft will help keep the pinion snug against the inside bearing.

I'm sure the above two experienced posters will get you squared away without a doubt.

With a new axle set up i check to make sure all is good after a few baby runs before i lightly beat on it. I just drive so no comps or goofball attempts at a line i know i can't do. I did not like the Traxxas 1985 Teflon shims after a few runs so i switched to metal shims and i will use these from now on. Just my .02 X-Mas bonus.
