Default Should the links be short or long?

I got my self a chassis and plan on building my first crawler/scaler. I have a Boyer chassis so no need to mount the links to the motor plate. I know the length of the links make my wheelbase. I've seen different mountings on them and was wondering if having shorter upper links matter? I don't want to start fabricating links that and what not if it's no good.

The angle at which you want our axle to sit will determine your upper link length. Basically you want the axle pinion to be pointing at the transmission output roughly which in theory with most axles will put the knuckles swinging on a flat plane parallel to the ground. That's especially important if you don't have clockable axle c-hubs. So when building links you want to first determine your wheelbase and create the appropriate length lower links. Then the axle geometry will tell you the upper link length required. There are tons of diagrams on link/axle geometry all over the web and I know somewhere on this site.

Ok hard for me sometimes to understand and I can't find a good guide. But take a look at my picture. There you can se that I can clearly have booth short and long uppers and still maintain correct alignment of the axlespur. So will that give me something else then just saving weight?

It looks ok, but your front axle is rotated too much. Rear axle pinion appears parallel with ground. Swap the angles (but not the links) front to rear, take another picture and we'll check again.

In other words front needs little shorter upper links, rear needs slightly longer upper links to get pinion angles good.

It is not my truck. I'm just asking how I should start cutting my links. I'm just asking if short uppers if the geometry is right is ok or if they should be long.

The upper links should be about 75% of the length of the lowers.
