Default Stretching SCX10 Wheelbase to fit New Bright JK Body

Hi, first I'd like to introduce myself as I am still quite new to the forum - Dirk here from Singapore - not new to RC, but fairly new to crawlers.

Now, I have a RTR SCX10 with a 313mm wheelbase right now and just bought a New Bright Jeep body which I would like to add to my SCX10 chassis.

I know that you have to extend the wheelbase to roughly 330mm (13 inch). But so far I couldn't find the exact answer on how long the links should be and hope you guys can help. Also, do I only stretch the rear or both front and rear?

I would like to use the Axial aluminium link kit with spacers, 3 link with panhard in front and 4 link rear using the rod ends that come with Axial.

Could you help me in understanding which link size in mm I should use for front, upper and lower as well as rear upper and lower using Axial rod ends?

Thanks so much!

That's a difficult answer, basically put the chassis and body in front of you, measure, eyeball etcetera, make some longer links and test fit. You'll probably end up re-making some links to get it just right. You can get away just lengthening one end, but may be beneficial to lengthen a bit at both ends, depending on the front/rear weight bias that you want to achieve. According to your measurements, you need to stretch the chassis wb by 17mm (one inch = 25.4mm) probably fine to just stretch the rear links. Keep us updated and post some pics.

can you not just subtract 313-330=17 then divide by 2 and get 8.5 mm longer on each link
or does that not work in buildling links curious myself

I kept the front stock and extended the rear. I am running ax10 2.2 wheels and tires and was able to fit them in the wheel wells without modification with a 13.4" wheel base

Here's a pic of the trailing arms I made. Tacked up some tig filler rod and threaded on some end links

Hard to read it properly but it is around 13-3/8" wheel base

Tires will fit wheel wells without body modification

Or you can do slight trimming to the back of the rear fenders and cut the nose off the front fenders to achieve a more scale looking body height

As you can see you can get plenty of flex

@andyjr: was thinking the same, just equally split between front and rear but wasn't sure it make sense.

@Piranha_GT thanks for your pictures and feedback.

Was actually hoping I could realise this with the stock links and just add some spacer to upper and lower links - tricky part really is to figure out how much to extend each side.

Also, you have to extend both upper and lower links right?

@derdirk come to think of it I think I actually used the rear links on the front, so it did actually push it forward a bit. Sorry for the misinformation

Yes the upper links need to be extended as well

You will also need to lengthen the driveshaft. I just bought another set and spliced it together as seen in first pic

Thanks gain Prianha_GT.

I think I will just play with some spaces front and rear till i reach a decent wheelbase that it make look good. Once my body arrives and i have time to adjust I will post some pics as i progress.

Found a few information on the link size, but they seem to be all different from each other - here are some examples I have found:

Hole to hole
Front 120mm / 110mm
Rear 145mm / 135mm

Front:
upper: 135mm
lower: 145mm
Rear:
upper: 130mm
lower: 133mm

Will be playing around and see which one works best.

My body finally arrived and I had time to look into the wheelbase.

For now I have added 2x 4mm spacers on the lower links (rear) and 1x 5mm spacers on the upper links (rear) and left the front stock - I am using the axial standard aluminium link kit with the original rod ends.

For me it seems to look pretty ok -

Now I just need to work on the body!!

That thing would look almost PERFECT on a Wraith. Especially with the 2.2's.. whew! That red J/K would look sweet on one! It does look good on your extended SCX10 too dont get me wrong I just thought about all what was written earlier in the thread..

I bought them at rpphobby - just search for axial spacers - they come in multiple sizes.

I'm sure other hobby stores have them too.

Perfect, I think I found them. Thanks for that. I have the junfac ones but the actual axial branded ones look much better imho. I didnt know they made them.

The Jeep's looking great! Keep it up!

On a side note, theres a rear bumper from rc4wd (Z-S1297) that would look sick on that thing! Might not be your cup of tea but...

Turns out it's a real bumper/tire carrier. Here it is on a jeep that was for sale somewhere in TX...

Also, I got my spacers. Thanks again.

Pretty cool - but with them you can't reach the wheelbase you need for the NB body since max length is 315mm.
