Hello, I'm Mico. I'll be staying in Akasaka, Minato Tokyo in the next 4 days. I'm planning to take the chance to get an RC truck or buggy while I'm at it. Any good recommendation for a hobby shop in Tokyo where I can purchase one? I know Akihabara area is a good place to start. Thanks.

Maybe you could order this plus all the necessities:
...and have it delivered to wherever you're staying by the time you arrive? |

I just got back from Tokyo, tam tam is in akihabara and was one of the best I found. There is also a tamiya shop near ginza with a great selection of rc in the basement. It's the address below. Japan, 〒105-0004 Tōkyō-to, Minato-ku, Shinbashi, 4 Chome−7−2, 「6 東洋 海事 ビル Just a heads up though the rc kits are very expensive for some reason, we get better prices here in the us |

Being from CA my self you should wait to get back and maybe try Sheldon's Hobbies. There is one in San Jose and another in Milpitas.

Howdy! I'm a newbie to this forum but not to Japan. The websites linked to list lots of stuff available already in the US. The US prices are much lower than in Japan, by a fair margin...20%?, as pointed out already. I suppose what you'd want to look for in Akihabara are any items uniquely available there, perhaps, and not so common in the US. Maybe a custom controller? Or a wireless camera setup? (These are probably cheaper elsewhere, but unique is unique.) How about a 7" action figure to put inside your crawler, if/when you have one with a scale interior? Or custom product logos (marketing) for Japanese companies, hard to find in the US? Last edited by RoverTom; 01-17-2018 at 12:35 PM. |

go to akihabara for the experience alone! but yeah i would not buy an RC there. more to lug around in the airport? nah, skip it. mailing stuff from japan (privately) to your residence here in CA is also crazy expensive. but yeah go to akiba! (short for akihabara) i went there maybe once a month during my 3 years of duty in japan. TamTam was my favorite shop, but not the one in akiba. its kinda small. i went to the one in Sagamihara on route 16, closer to yokohama. oh man... i miss japan!!! |
