| Traxxas GTS shocks on SCX10ii Trail Honcho
I bought 2nd hand Traxxas GTS shocks for my SCX10ii which have white springs installed. Being a total suspension noob, I'm wondering if that's a good spring rate for the honcho and also what weight oil I should run. They seem pretty good but maybe a little soft in the front.

White spring as in they are painted white or white springs as they have white stripe marking? I'm currently awaiting my GTS shocks to arrive for my rig and I spent last few days researching the springs. So, Traxxas springs for GTS shocks come with different rates (stiffness). It's indicated by stripe color and it goes like this: - Yellow; 0.22 (soft) - White; 0.3 - Orange; 0.39 Sport or 0.45 Defender - Green; 0.54 - Blue; 0.61 (hard) From what I get stock Defender are 0.45 and 0.54, oil is 30WT. And answering your question what is good for Honcho - depends on what you want? Ultimate crawling and climbing performance or realistic trail looks. Not to mention overall weight of your truck matters - lots of stuff on board, heavy body with accessories will sag your suspension. I'm going for realistic and scale suspension movement so I ordered two kinds of soft springs. But I expect further purchase will be required since all will come from experimentation. For the oil, try going oil-less, then add stock 30WT, replace with thicker and observe what you like the most. I'm going that way - experiment, observe and note. Half the fun with RCs is tinkering with them. |

The trx4 sport has orange in the rear, white in the front. Its quite a bit lighter than the defender since it doesnt have all the extra servos for lockers and 2 speed trans as well as a lighter body. The springs are cheap though. Just buy the yellows and oranges and play around. |

I happen to order shocks and exactly yellow and orange rated springs, should arrive today. Currently I have stock dual spring (20mm/40mm) SCX10 shocks installed so when my order arrives I can compare the stiffness if you like. Comparison will be made without oil as my current shocs leaked all of it and I was driving oil-less for the past year or so... I expect that those springs may not be what I am looking for and additional white may be needed. I went straight head on and instead of extensive research I choose trial and error. |

I put on some GTS shocks on my modded 10.2 kit, with a Honcho style body & cage. I'm running Axial 12.5x60mm springs: blue - 3.03 lbs/in. on the front and yellow - 2.63 lbs/in. on the rear. Since I have the GCM scale drivetrain in my truck, all the weight has pushed to the front and the front settles in nicely. But there is hardly any weight on the rear. I've got the standard Traxxas shock oil, which I think is about 30~40 weight. |
