Default Is there a metallic bronze paint that will work on lexan?

The only one I am finding is testor lacquer spray and I read they won't work on lexan. Is there a metallic bronze available I could use?

You know that may work. My plan was to do a self made color shift. And since this is just a top coat. I could really make it work out well. Going from metallic black to bronze.

If you do decide to do it, post your final results.

Not sure how close Testors champagne gold metallic (2922) is to the bronze you're looking for but I have a brand new can you're welcome to use if you can't find what you want.

Yeah. One on way to bloom. There's also a small shop in bloom that I may check.

I found the cans I want online. Just shipping 2 cans is absurd lol.

The color I'm after is similar to an older Subaru color. Called Java Black Pearl.

It's like a metallic black with almost a bronze pearl metallic to it. looks amazing when the sun hits it. So trying to recreate that color.

The Testors lacquer does work on lexan. I use it on slotcar bodies. Apply in multiple very light coats or it will melt the body

I have used the Spaz Stix white on lexan and it worked fine. I used the green / gold version on a grasshopper 2 project I was doing with my kids and worked out great. That was on a hard body so not apples to apples but same brand and there was no labeled difference. The guys at the hobby shop said it works on lexan but I have not tried the color changing version on lexan. I would give the bronze from spaz stix a shot and maybe test it on a scrap piece of lexan if you have it.

I ended up with the spaz stix pearl bronze and Tamiya gunmetal. Planning on painting in the next coming days. Just planning what lines I'm going for and the such.

Also has anybody ever used clear plastidip on the outside of the body? It seems it would be more scratch resistant that normal lexan.

I would think plastidip on the outside would cause the body to stick rather than slide over rocks.
Likely to show gouges more than scratches on bare lexan. If the scratches bother you try waxing the body.

Be careful which Spaz Stix white or black (and maybe others) you use. The ones with “backer” in the description are intended to be applied over other paint and do not stick when sprayed directly on lexan.
I learned that the hard way. Painted 3-4 slot car bodies and the white started flaking before I even mounted them.

I have use Spaz Stix, make sure you prep well. If you dont i have had that paint flake off. If you do prep the body correctly that paint will get you some cool affects. I have in the past use house of kolors in the past they had a shift changer paint for Lexan.

Thanks for the clarification. I almost picked up a black by Spaz that was listed as a backer because I wanted something flat and liked the way it looked on a hard body. It worked well but as you mentioned, I never sprayed directly on lexan.

Jeanethics makes a good point on the instructions. I followed ever step carefully and went against my nature to be super patient with each step. The color change effect is pretty good but I have heard a lot of others complain about it.

Is that true for this brand only or in general? I have an old can of Pactra (for lexan) white backing that I was going to use for white. It was lying around doing nothing.

Proline has Metallic Copper and Metallic Pewter although lots of people seem to be less than impressed with the adhesion of Proline paints.
