Default trx-6 newbie question

I am new to RC crawling, bought my first... Traxxas TRX-6. Love it.

I would like to make it a little bit faster but without overpowering it for on the trails, would like to do some mud also. I have a Castle Mamba X sensored and (2) Tekin Roc412 sensored motors that a friend traded me for all my old emaxx parts.

Would that be a good match?

Would I have to change the stock gearing?

i'm 100% not an expert but i do know that the TRX-6 runs the motor backwards so a sensored setup might be difficult, but if you use a regular non sensored setup you can just swap two leads on the motor. since you have that stuff though, i think its worth it for you to take a look at the manual and see if its easy to reverse it. in my opinion the mamba x is a little overkill so focus on the tekins. i'm not sure if you would have to change the stock gearing. those transmissions are pretty robust though

Should be good! Keep an eye on motor temperature if you're gonna bash it or run through mud.

The Mamba X gets my vote 100%. I love mine.

In the programming you can switch motor direction to reverse and the throttle curves are excellent.

Holmes Hobbies has great Mamba X tuning videos.

I run the Mamba-X in my TRX6, works great. You should have a great range of speed with excellent control throughout the range of the throttle.

You will want to go into the Castle-Link software and reverse the motor direction; this is due to the portals. Also, you will want to put a dab of dielectric grease on the sensor connectors on the motor and ESC, then plug in the cable; this will keep the water out when running through those muddy conditions.

What kv are those tekin motors?

I briefly ran an rx4 and 2300kv roc412hd in my trx6 before I sold it. It was a good setup for that application, but in my opinion didn’t have the greatest low speed control. It was very useable, but I tend to value low speed control over top speed. That was with a 13t pinion, so stock 11t would have improved low end, but reduced my top speed (which would have been fine).

Unless the motors you have are super fast (3500kv+) I would definitely throw that setup in there. You can program motor rotation in the Esc, so that’s not a problem. Anywhere from 1800kv-2700kv I would start with stock gearing and then adjust as needed.

Those are VERY VERY VERY good choices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But they are so good I wouldn't want to waste them in mud.

Get faster cheap HH Crawl master sport for $20 bucks, keep the stock ESC. Play in the mud until you get tired of cleaning it. You will have a mess and maybe ruin a couple things but at least save the MambaX and Tenkin for cleaner days.
