| demo cars!
Some of you may have seen my metal bodied trucks such as my test rig Project True scale test rig Joe's Flatty Joe's flatty The revival! And the comp tuber Comp tuber Well for a while now I've been wanting to build some demo cars the had realistic damage so I decided to make some using some old RC10 components I had lying around First off I had some simple flat chassis made up at work out of stainless this gives me 4 equal cars for a kind of "spec" demo then I installed the mechanical parts I had lying around and dropped in some electronics to make sure it all worked good Then I started the bodies I used the same molds I used for my wrinkles project since they were the simplest to make then I glued them together to make the basic shells Next I got started on the floor of the cab. I crabbed some crappy aluminum and cut it to the shape I needed then glued some reinforcement to make the supports I took thin strips of aluminum and formed them over 1/4" square brass tubing Then I test fitted it to the chassis then clamped the body on to see how it fit Looks pretty good I think More to come! |

Very cool! I always like your builds... This one sounds like a blast. Only thing I worry about is bending the frame in a collision.

Thanks guys! Well to make the truck as realistic as possible I needed firewalls, so I bent up a simple front one Then I formed the rear of the cab and gave it some ribbing for strength Then tested the fit I also needed inner fenders of course Then I made a rad support which consisted of a body mount made of heavier roof flashing glued to the rad support shape now all I need to do is glue everything together to make the cab off to bed now. |

So this whole thing will be glued together? And you are going to ram these against each other? Why not do some pop rivets? That's cheap and strong?

| Because glue is cheaper and stronger. Trust me the Shoo goo I use is stronger than any thing else out there that's readily available to me. Just go look at my other builds. they get the snot beat out of them and hold up just fine.

I use household Goop from Home Depot all the time, stuff can hold together a 1:1 if the surface is clean.

I thought i would give a shot of this, just for realism, it even has rust holes! More progress Before I glued the body on I wanted to make a bumper. It needed to be stronger then the panels of course, so I bent up some roof flashing and glued a mount to it to attach it to the chassis I made a plate out of brass tubing It should be very secure and still bend if hit hard enough here is the bumper in place then I glued it all up and gave it a quick coat of black I better shot of the bumper mount and just like the real ones I has bolts holding the hood shut! next it's on to the bed |

You should record the event with a high speed camera. |

well I was originally planning on running them at this last comp but when it got moved up I didn't have time to finish all of them. I may just slowly build them over the winter and run them in the spring. not sure yet. I would love to if I could find one that's affordable. there is a lot of stuff I want to record in slo-mo.
