There are some china based companies that make tanks that look really similar to the Tamiya ones, they are upgradeable if your willing to search the parts out. I can't recall the name of the company, but they were only 100-200 per vehicle.

Do some digging on some tank websites and Im sure you will find them.

Hope that helps.

i think you're talking about the heng long rc tanks. for 200 bucks i think they're actually a good quality tank. not like the 50 dollar pos tanks you can get at walmart.

Yep those are them. When I was looking at tanks a few years ago that was at the top of my list for price.

Yup. Heng Long. I have converted 2 over to hobby grade electronics. But even then they are only fare at best. The gear boxes are noisy and not that strong, and its really hard to find a upgrade for the 380 size motors. I tried a few differant motors and none were better than what it already had. I had fun rebuilding them. I have one left and it just sits about 99% of the time.

I used to have one of those cheapo RC tanks from department stores from when I was younger, was fun but the rubber track kept de-railing(?)
Have always wanted a better model but like OP stated, the good ones are just too much.

I use 1/30th Sherman M4A3 Radio Controlled Tank. The M4 Sherman tank was the primary tank used by the USA during World War II and it was also distributed to the Allies. In the UK the M4 was given the name Sherman after Union General William Tecumseh Sherman. and subsequently the British name found its way into common use in the US.
