Default Global Rally Cross #81 Puma Subaru

Somewhere, in my wife's possession, is a box containing an Exceed Madspeed Drift King that I will be getting for my birthday on September 17th. I can't wait to get the build started so I am starting this build thread in anticipation and to help me keep track of what I have and what I need to order. The plan is to build a 1/10 resemblance of Bucky Lasek's #81 Puma Global Rallycross Championship car.

I have been doing lots of research on rally cars and considered Rally Legends, M05's, TT-01's, DF03ra's, the new XV, and some others but for a build on a budget the Madspeed looked like the way to go. Here is the car I ordered.

These are the specs on it.
Type: 4WD Electric Drift Car
Scale: 1/10
Length: 17.32 in (440mm)
Width: 7.48 in (190mm)
Wheelbase: 10.20 in (259mm)
Weight: 3.3 lb (1496.g)
Chassis: Molded composite
Suspension: Independent
Tire Type: Drifting rubber
Motor or Engine: High-performance 380 3000KV motor
Speed Control: Hobbywing 35A ESC
Radio: 2.4Ghz Pistol radio system
Servos: 3KG.cm high-torque steering servo
Kit/RTR: RTR
Shock Type: Aluminum, coil-over oil filled
Body: Prepainted Drift King body
Ball Bearings: Complete
Battery: 7.2v Ni-MH 1800mAh

It also comes with a light system, aluminum shocks, and ball diffs.

Linky for more info.
Exceed RC 2.4Ghz MadSpeed Drift King Brushless Edition 1/10 Electric Ready to Run Drift Car w/ LED Head Lights (SK-Green)
On sale and with a coupon code I got the car shipped for $135 and change.

Here is a shot of the Exceed chassis and the Rally Legends is below. They look the same to me and the Rally Legends was a pretty well recommended car. I have heard good things on the Exceed so I hope it pans out.

Below is the list of parts I have for the build.
Exceed Madspeed Drift King with Nissan GTR body and light kit
Exceed RC 2.4Ghz MadSpeed Drift King Brushless Edition 1/10 Electric Ready to Run Drift Car w/ LED Head Lights (SK-Green)
1/10 Car Light Kit 1/10 Scale RC Car Light Lead
Blue Angel Headlights LED Angel Eyes Car Headlights (Blue)
RPM Ball Ends to extend shocks and raise ride height RPM R/C Products - Long Shank Rod Ends (12) 4-40 - Yellow

The GTR body and lights will go on my TT-01 drifter and I had ordered the other light kit and angel eyes while they were on sale so they will go in the rally body.
Assorted 2s and 3s lips

Below is the list of parts I need to order.
Subaru WRX body 1/10 SUBARU IMRREZA WRX PC Transparent 190mm RC Car Body

Wheels (2sets) 1/10 RC Car 8 Spoke 26mm Chrome Wheel (4pcs)

Pavement Tires 1/10 RC On-Road Car Performance Tyres Set with Insert Sponge (4pcs)

Dirt Tires HPI Pirelli TowerHobbies.com | HPI4467 4467 HPI Racing Pirelli T Rally Tire 26mm D Compound (2)

All total, if you ordered every part I have listed, you should be able to build a nice rally car for around $200. IMHO that is pretty budget friendly.

I'll post the full build with reviews on parts and how to's on the mods so check back if you are interested in building a budget rally car.

Nice... I'm a huge Subaru fan, but that's the first I've seen of the Bucky Lasek car. Looks sweet... Can't wait to see how your build comes out.

Can you check exact measurements before you order? Car is 190mm. Body is only 185mm. I had the same problem with my tamiya lancer shell and 'other' chassis's.

I've got one of those tires on my Fiesta and they seemed to work pretty good in dirt.

I know someone else who ordered that body. His should be in soon and we can see. Thanks for catching that.

Some of the bodies on r2's website are like that. not sure why since I don't know any 185mm width vehicles... also, check the wheelbase. Some bodies I was checking out were a different WB by enough that it wouldn't likely work.

One other guy has the puma logo, but didn't do the total Bucky Lasek theme, so this should look killer.

They're all listed as 190mm vehicles, but the tamiya XV-01 I just bought is only about 180mm at the rear. The lancer body posted in my thread is only 183mm inside to inside. (1.5mm thick lean made it about 186 outside to outside) pays to check

A lot of the Tamiya 10th scale cars are not exactly 190mm and generally fall around 180-185mm. Different wheel offsets and hexs can get the track width right where you need it.

I guess another good question to ask would be is the Madspeed chassis actually 190mm? Since I haven't gotten mine yet I can't measure it.

As a comparison, my mate bought the Rhobbies focus body, and it is only 176mm at the front arches

Interesting. We have been having this discussion on scale 4x4. A guy over there has the focus Body as well. He has a Madspeed and Subaru on the way. When he gets them in he is going to measure them for me before I order.

A scale4x4 member got that Subaru body in and measured it. It is actually a 190mm body so we are good to go.

Since Subaru got hard up for American publicity.

From what I know they bombarded him with classes at Rally Fish and are calling him a pro.

Yeah, a lot of the other skater dudes are in RallyCross now. I am more of a Pastrana fan but no one has made a Dart body yet. I also prefer some of the other Puma drivers over Lasek but all of my RC's are blue so I want to do something different and I can do more detail with window trim on a charcoal car than I can the black one.

This is the R2 Subaru body on a TL01. It is confirmed to measure 190mm. Thanks for that info, Cassius.

Parts are ordered from R2hobbies.com. They were out of the tires I originally wanted so I went with these.

1/10 RC Car Touring Tire 26mm with insert sponge (4pcs)
They should do fine on tarmac.

The update is that it was delivered and my wife got home before I did and hid it until my birthday on the 17th.

Other than that I have sketched out the Puma zombie cat and am waiting on parts.
