Default Styrene to ABS?

So my LHS doesn't have the Plastruct for dissimilar plastics. I am attempting to make a cab back for a Tamiya body which I believe are ABS. As a test I used some Testors model glue.
Is there a good alternative for gluing these together?

I found this stuff at Ace Hardware and have pretty good luck with it...it's my go to glue for fixing Barbies!

It appears the Testors has decent bond. At least I couldn't pop it off with my fingernail with a little pry.

That's a good sign eh? Think it'll withstand a roll, flip and a bounce?

I guess we'll find out, I generally don't try to catch my truck when it falls. I may try to a little more with the hardbody though... probably not though.

I'm with ya on not catching it...give her heck and then order a better glue if it fails.
Good luck

In the plumbing section of home improvement stores, they sell big cans of glue for plastic pipes. There is a can of glue that is made for dis-similar plastics that you can use in a pinch, just use it very sparingly, it's stronger than the Plastruct glue.

I use the Plasstruct solvent, it's better than the glue. It actually melts the plastic a little and dries quickly, too.

The PlasticStruct stuff work good! Never tried the testor glue.

I use Oatey ABS cement on my NB JK body and it works great! Since it is a styrene based, it bonds excellent and is sand-able once fully cured. You can find it at just about any hardware store or plumbing supply house.

I might have some of that out in the shed with my landscape repair stuff.

I use a combination of Plastruct plastiweld and a few layers of styrene for reinforcement when I did my first hardbody joining a cab and a bed. Since I am fairly new to these solvents I wanted to make sure I had a bullet proof bond. Now I've learned...

Squadron green putty on small accessories such as filling holes and mounting tailgates.

Here's a shot of my Tamiya Tundra ABS with styrene, plastruct between the layers, and also Permatex plastic epoxy (THIS STUFF IS RIDICULOUSLY STRONG).
In retrospect the Permatex epoxy is really all I needed. Once dry it can be sanded down and literally feels like concrete.

Here she is primered up and sanded....still needs some work but I might keep it that way as a beater rig. Just put on door handles, lenses, grill, and figuring out how to mount a front bumper with the brick chopped off my CC-01.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to bond the cab and the bed together?

You really don't want to use a "glue" you are better off with a "plastic welder". Glues will get brittle and then when the body flexes the glue/epoxy may separate. I have bonded styrene to ABS with no problems. As many stated above, Plastruct, Tenax and others that are similar are best

Well I'm not doing that.

I'm not sure how well the model glue will hold the panel in, but the panel is bonded good with Plastruct Weldene. That stuff works nice.
This is what I'm doing.

Tenax 7 works great if you can find it. I have two hobby shops by me that sell it. I have heard some areas can't sell it thought. The plastruct stuff works well also. It is the best I have found. Locktite Super glue gel works good for some stuff but is expensive and you don't get much.
