| Painting advice wanted
Hello, I am trying to paint a body a dark metallic blue. So far, I've only found that Tamiya and Parma sell a metallic blue, and after surfing many forums I've yet to find definitive answers to my questions. please excuse me if these are noob questions, or if there is already a thread out there covering this, I was not able to find it. My questions are: 1. What brand would you recommend? 2. What backing color would I use to attempt to darken the color up? 3. What would I use to tint, not black out the windows? All help and suggestions greatly appreciated! |

Most hobby stores that carry sprays carry a window tint version. Sprays on like any other color but stays transparent. Just go light in coats and build it up. Due to it being transparent it is easy to spray too much thinking you haven't covered an area yet. It will then kinda bubble up and run. Just a few nice coats and it will look great. Make sure if painting a lexan body that you back light colors with something or use masking tape. the window tint can bleed through the other paint...don't ask how I know. For Lexan I have had good luck with Pactra but have never used Tamiya. The Pactra has always worked well for me. The candy metalic colors that need a backing coat of silver or whatnot seem to stick exceptionally well and are very durable. I have had a few paint jobs where the paint has come off in chunks when the vehicle takes a hit. But that was mostly with solid colors for whatever reason. I may not have prepped those bodies well enough. I have oddly also found the ultra cheap Rustoleum satin black is like armor on lexan bodies. I use that for trim/flares or bumpers, etc. Rocks and whatnot will carver into the lexan before that paint scrapes off. I have not tried other colors of that though so it may have something to do with that particular paint. I am no paint expert. but I have painted many a body. I always like new ones and racing and crawling takes there toll on them. An old body of mine that i used the pactra spray tint. |

PS59 is a very nice shade - worth waiting for, keep looking. It only came out a couple mths earlier this yr so might not have filtered out to everywhere that's only got PS16 on their racks. you can do the trans-blue+gunmetal like we did before PS59 but unless you really empty the whole blue can on 1 shell its hard to get it nicely even coated for a unvarying shade. PS59 is heaps easier. for even darker blue, we used to replace gunmetal with a quick mist of trans silver + black. Again its pretty hard to get even mist cost of trans silver over entire shell. |

Pactra makes a metallic blue, so does Createx. For a scale looking metallic I use Createx pearl colors.

So what would be the best way to achieve this color, or a color very similar? |
