Default New take on masking...

Getting tired of buying the best masking tape money can buy, and still paint bleeding under? So was I, so I decided to try something different. I was doing some trim detail on the outside of a lexan body with a paint pen, and decided I would experiment with using electrical tape instead of masking tape. The result: crisp clean lines with little to no bleeding. In addition to having no bleed through, you can also stretch and bend the electrical tape to get really nice curves in your paint.

I'm not sure how well it would work if you are planning on using a heat gun or hair dryer to expedite the drying process, but it's worked great for me. I'll post some close up detail pics when I get a chance...

How about left behind residue? I've found electrical tape loves to leave behind stickiness

I was very surprised to see no residue the first time I used it. I think the key is not leaving it on long. Peel it off as soon as your last coat is down.

Got it. I've unwound older wires and it's a sticky mess

Seems like it worked. Was there any clean up before laying down paint over it, or did it come up pretty clean already?

I have used liquid mask for doing trim painting and it works great.

Body color and window tint are inside and trim is done outside, so I didn't paint over it, but I definitely could have without a problem. There was no residue at all. Like I said, I think the key is taking it off ASAP
