Input on paint idea

I have had this idea for a "rusted body" look for Lexan. I'm just throwing it out there to get some feedback on what you think. I am quite new to all of this so please, be gentle.
Start with a Lexan body and put a few coats of a Darker "Rust" red color, then a backing of a few coats of black or Silver. Then Paint the outside of the body a few coats of a lighter rust color...then finish it with whatever color you want the body to look like it was "originally". Scuff the outside with a Scotch Brite pad or light sandpaper to reveal the other shade of "rust" underneath, to appear like it has rusted through the "original" paintjob.
