Default powdercoating

so a friend of mine works at a local off road shop here in town. some of you jeep guys might have heard of them. T&T customs. he offered to powdercoat my frame and cage for me as he owes me some money..that and he wants me to paint a body for him. last year i asked them to coat another cage i built but they told me that the powdercoating would chip off just like paint would on the rocks. im also concerened about the heat if it will melt my brazing or not. which if it does i will just have him tig it all back together. i do bake my paint on but at a low 200 degress. with powder it is more like 350 or so.

any input would be nice. if it is worth it or should i skip it.

I powder coat all of my stuff. I wouldn't worry about your joints...it doesn't get hot enough for that. I think powder coat looks 10X better than paint, but it does come off. It doesn't really chip like paint though...it gets worn off from the scraping but doesn't really flake. I leave all of my tube work scraped up though since I like the look of the bare metal showing through.

The downside to powder coating is if you choose to touch it up. You can't really do that like you can paint. You have to strip it down bare, and do it all from scratch. However most people I know do the same thing with paint, so I guess it's not much different. I've read gasket remover will take PC off pretty easy, but I've never tried it.

You can double coat powder coats. We do it all the time at work, actually sticks to itself extremely well. Only problem is its definitely thicker because of the second coat.

I'll have to give it another try. I've tried doing colors on top of each but it never seemed to hold onto anything that was already done. Maybe a higher voltage gun would do the trick.
