Need some help on backing

Hello, this is my first lexan body i've ever painted. It's a 79 ford f150 from hpi for my scx10. The windows and bed was painted tamiya gun metal and the rest was painted with tamiya red (ps-2). The only two colors I have to back with are the tamiya gun metal, and an outlaw black. I think the outlaw black would be to dark and turn it brown. Would the gun metal work? That too is fairly dark. If that will work, what else should I be aware of? How many coats of it? .......

Black will work fine. Use very light (over spray like) coats. Maybe just 2-3 coats. You only want to cover the paint, not saok it down real thick. THe thicker your paint, the easier it will crack and peal from the body. Also lightly scuff the body (not the windows) with a green scouring pad or high grit sandpaper before painting. Make sure to wash everything with hot soapy water before painting and allow plenty of time for drying in between washing and coats of paint. If you tape off the headlight areas and leave them clear, you can install LEDs on the backside to give it a realistic look. I sell LED kits too, so if you need some let me know . Just take your time and work very slowly, the slower you work on prep for the body the better it will turn out. Prep work is key to a awesome paint job!
