Default Styrene paint noob needs advice...

I have two Mojave hilux styrene bodies I need to paint...

I'm not really too keen with it...
and YouTube seems difficult to search for specifics...

The sticky links at the top of this thread are mostly dead
that I could see... so I'm not finding help in those sticky's.

My son wants to paint his Mojave Hilux ODG...
and with a single white star to each door.

So...
do we mask the star out and use the white IM surface of the body ?

Or do we primer the whole body first...
then paint the doors white... then mask off for the star ?

Or do we primer and paint the whole body...
then apply and paint a white star over the ODG paint ?

Thanks if you can offer some insight...
or a good (functional) link on painting techniques for styrene bodies.

any advice will be helpful...

thanks ahead

just find the paint you want and paint it. you can use an adhesion promoter like "bulldog" which you can get at a local auto parts store. as far as the star, I'd find a sign shop that does vinyl graphics and they can cut you a couple stars out the size you need. or if you just want them painted on, then just have them cut out some "negative" stars to use as a paint mask.

here's a simpler version for you. paint the truck, then paint the star (over the green). was that easier to comprehend?

---No

--Yes you'll want to do a light sanding and primer and do any filler work you need then re primer it before any paint.

Or do we primer and paint the whole body...
then apply and paint a white star over the ODG paint ?

--you could do you base color then mask off and cut the star shape out and paint it. This would probably be best as the star is lighter in color so it won't show any bleeding of the green into the white at the edges, but it will also darken up the star because its a darker base..

--You could also paint the entire truck with a base of white then mask off the star and spray the top coat, but if done to soon you will have bleed lines at the edges of your star. This is the best option as the white base will also make the green look better, but will take a bit longer.

I hope I was a bit helpful, I'm by no means a top notch painter but from what I've done myself and the research I seem to do an ok job. If you look up a few of the painters on here and shoot them a pm I'm sure someone would be able to give you a bit more in depth advice.
