| painting over a rtr body?
What happens if I paint over the already painted Rubicon RTR body I have. Like from the inside. Will it still show through as the silver or what? I'm using a matte color, most likely a dark tan or a dark green of some sort. Will Krylon or the like do the job or is that a no go for the lexan? I'm wanting to knock this out first thing tomorrow if possible. I read you either have to paint the outside shell or wet sand the glossy finish of the lexan to achieve a true matte look. Can't wait to get this rig more "mine" than RTR stock shelf looking.

Yes it will show as silver....it's like painting over your walls but want it to still be the previous color painted...

You could use lexan paint on the outside (krylon or regular paint will flake off). It will show the original silver when it gets scratched. Painting over the original color on the inside won't work.

^^ X2 I paint most of my lexan bodys on the outside. I like the way it scratches up sorta like a hardbody (but not) and it isn't all show room shiny. I usually paint the inside with a combo of silver & copper to replicate bare metal and rust. Just make sure you use "lexan specific" paint. |

| Re: painting over a rtr body? I stumbled across a post where a fella had silver on the inside and painted the outside his color, when it took scratches it looked like bare metal showing through. So this is actually gonna be awesome. I'm gonna try the Krylon Fusion if they carry it in matte colors, many posts say it works great for folks.

I've used Krylon fusion and even though it says "gloss" It actually comes out a satin. Not quite glossy and not quite flat. I've had very good luck with it

I'd suggest sanding the lexan to give the Fusion a chance of sticking better. I've had good luck with Fusion as a backer on lexan paints but, not so much straight on the lexan.

Most lexan specific paints actually come out with a matte finish on the outside. I mean just look at a lexan body you've painted and it has a matte finish on the inside, isn't all shiny until you peel off the film and see it through the shell. |
