I'm totally doing this when my D90 shell gets here. I'll probably need some "expert" help with the wiper blade templates though....

And I forgot to add, R|M|D Photography, what size links are you using for the D90 on the scx10? Just the dingo links, or would I need to make my own 'SWB' links?

I could use some weathering on my bright yellow Rubi.
I may just try this,ya think it would work even though i didn't start with orange.

Tamiya makes weathering powder kits that come in a couple combinations of colors. I have found them at Hobby Lobby by the plastic models and airbrush supplies. They are made for military models . Using a flat clearcoat over the final finish of dust and dirt should protect it from washing away in the rain or water. Remember flat clearcoat will make the windows foggy so put those wiper area masks on first.

My girlfriend got me some enamel paint for my hilux build, and just curious if those will work, or do I need waterbased acrylic?? I am awhile from painting admittedly, but just want ducks in a row!

I would stick with waterbased acrylic since they are easily just thinned by water and the water just evaporates. Plus many enamels are too glossy to give a worn look. If you are close to a walmart(who isn't?) just get some of their paints. They are like $.50 each.

Thank you for posting this thread, it was super easy to get nice results following your directions! My phone camera washes out all the colors, it looks much better in person.

Now when I enevitably ding the body on the trail it just adds to the look.

Anybody do this on a black truck? If so, any differences to be used. Don't known if the black wash would work the same. Thanks!!!

I'm no expert but if the body is painted black if that what you mean I'd try i very light tan or light orange wash, almost like dilute the paint with the paint brush your using wash first or Silver to get into thought creases of paint and if its not dark enough just add a like tiny drop paint.
experiment first on some old bodies....
Maybe somebody else might be able to add to this..

Black wash is to define door lines, hood lines etc. I would apply the black wash last on a black truck.

I used this method on my trucks. Hard to screw it up, and looks cool!

For just body detail I'd use Paynes Grey. Definitely a lot of directions you could go considering what you'd want in the end.

Bunch of weathering how tos from one of the big names in scale modeling: http://www.migjimenez.com/en/content...o-step-by-step

I ordered the exact black paint as in OP’s initial post. Want to black wash a lexan body to get door / body seam lines effect.

Can someone confirm I am on the right track?

Also, would lightly scoring the seams with a razor blade or small awl help the effect?
