Default What do you use for window mask?

When you don't have the original window mask cut outs, what material do you guys find seals the edges and does a good job masking off windows?

I've used blue painter's tape for masking windows and painting two-tone and stripes on my rigs. You can get different widths, and score it with an Xacto knife to get clean edges.

Blue or green painter's tape (make sure it's high quality like 3M) or Bob Dively's liquid masking.

I use blue, and cut with a #11 to get the shape I want.

Are you guys doing anything special with this 3m blue painters tape before applying? I used it once before and got all sorts of color bleed and I tried the fingernail around the edges thing. Maybe I'm mentally deficient I don't know.

Retired clean room tape is the good stuff if you know anybody that works at a facility that uses it. If it ever gets accidentally brought out of the clean room, or the sealed packaging gets damaged, it can't go back in, so it gets tossed. Seals tight, removes clean. It's like $200 a roll if you had to buy it.

We go through crates of that stuff where i work (pharma plant) and i was shocked when i discovered the retail price.

We used to "borrow" rolls from the production area to use in the labs and offices

Clean the body with alcohol so the tape sticks well. Then overlap it a good bit and ensure the edges are pushed down hard.
