Default SteelIt Coating

Has anyone worked with or had experience with SteelIt spray can coating? Thinking about freshening up the Truggy chassis. Thought the stainless look might be kinda cool. Interested in how it holds up versus paint. How well it sprays. Any prepping details, etc.

Never heard of the stuff - very cool! Thanks for sharing.

Found this image online, but it doesn't say what color it is:

Also sprayed onto an RC chassis - just what you're looking for.

I'm pretty sure it only comes in that "raw" color. I've heard good things, but have never had a chance to try it. Looks to be about $15-18 for a large aerosol can. I figure I'll give it a go!

I talked to a steel it rep this weekend while i was at the Crandon shortcourse races. Stuff looks pretty tough and from what they were saying it appears to be pretty durable. I do want to snatch up a can of this to spray my cage on one of my trucks but i'm going to wait a few days to see if i happened to win the raffle i entered while up there. if i were to win i'd get a case of the stuff lol more than i would ever need! But i do definitely want to try this stuff out!

Clean up your raw cage, and than paint with steel it. You cant spray on top of any other paint as it just eats it and makes a mess. Its a dull silver color.
Source...my buddy uses it on his 1:1s

I have seen a lot of ads for this stuff in my social media crap. Been interested in trying it on chassis. I'll be looking forward to some feedback.

I’ll be doing this to the Truggy late this Fall or Early Winter. Don’t wanna strip her all down to do it while the crawling is good. I’ll keep you all posted on this thread. Or, if someone gets to it before me, let me know what you think.

Funny. I did powder coating at a company that was called steel coating for 3 - 4 years
One of the most popular colors was RAL 9006 grey AKA white aluminum.

Literally sprayed tonnes of paint in those years, though i manned the manual large paint booth ( bus sized items )
A thing i can also feel now with the slop in my right arm elbow.

Another funny thing is powder coating, thats about the only kind of surface treatment i am not certified for,,,, but i think its safe to say i know my stuff by now.

I was made aware of Steel It from Jimco Racing. I picked up a can recently for a scale project. It adhered well to a sand papered surface (Dremel flap wheel to be specific). Cleaned the surface with alcohol. The spray is very high volume compared to the Tamiya sprays and other model sprays I'm used to. One quick spray almost completely coated the part. Although I did apply about 3 coats to make sure no spots were left bare.It seems to be quite tough compared to ordinary paint, but it is still paint, and it did scratch when it hit a rock. They also have an alkyd primer. Maybe that would further improve the durability, but my understanding is that it only improves adhesion. The color is a satin dark grey. Check it out on the exhaust pipe on my Racetractor project. Eventually the whole frame will get the treatment.
