Default Fenders

Hi, any advice on how to make my Cherokee fenders black? From the outside? What paint type?

Just mask off the entire outside of the body(except the fenders of course) and spray it black. It won't flake off if you prep/paint right. Tamiya lexan paint will be your best bet, but if you can't get lexan paint like me, I've used hardware store paint on the outside and it still looks good.

Disagree, will scrape off if you squeeze the truck in tight places. But easy enough to repair.

If you paint the last coat from a distance (mist in in bursts so that it begins to dry on the way down) it will create a cool texture almost like scale rhino liner. Don't use real bed liner, the 'grit' is too big.

If it was me, I'd just order some cheap matte black vinyl on Ebay and do them that way. Easy to redo when it gets scratched up..

I use Tamiya PS-5 Black topped with a couple coats of Tamiya PS-55 Flat Clear. The last coat of the flat clear, hold the can about 8-10 inches away and lightly mist to give it some texture. I use this method on all of my bodies and it holds up great. Easy to touch up if it gets too many scratches.

Here is a sample of how it looks. All of the black on the body was done with this method.

Disagree - I've used spray on bed liner and it turns out awesome. To your point of spraying from a distance, that's the key to get the texture right. It's not a problem to spray from as much as 2' away with the aerosol bed liner because it's way more pressurized than standard rattle can paint. It also works better with multiple dustings versus 1 or 2 "heavy" coats. Holds up better than paint on the high contact areas as well.
