Default Tamiya DF-01 Mitsubishi Racing Lancer Repsol Ralliart

I finished up my DF-01 build recently so I figured I would share some pictures over the next week or so.

All pictures here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/309652...7642715900373/

Box art...

I didn't want locked diffs, so I went with a liberal coating of Tamiya's super sticky anti-wear grease in both diffs. Later, I ended up filling the entire rear diff case full of the anti-wear grease for thicker action. It feels great, but requires more than one tube of the grease.

Stock Johnson silver can motor and the Yeah Racing motor mount...

Yeah Racing CVDs replace the stock dog bones...

Rear end coming together...

Thank you! Off the top of my head, I'm not sure of any other direct fit bodies. The Tamiya TA02 bodies (the old prerunner and F-150) will be too short.

Steering servo and other electronics installed...

Wanting a little more positive offset than the stock wheels, I had some Hummer wheels wrapped with Losi rock bashers on hand that fit the bill. Had to trim the front bumper to clear...

Moving under its own power...

Body trimmed...

Why not...

Holy cow this body was a lot of work! Ready for red...

Ready for white...

Three sheets of decals...

Quite a few areas where decals don't line up, but it was the best I could do and I am pleased...

Painted the molded body parts black. I later realized that I was supposed to leave the rear light buckets red...oops.

Even though the kit comes with Tamiya LEDs, I decided to wire up my own from scratch for a couple of reasons. I wanted more than 2 pairs of LEDs and didn't want to pay $10 for each additional pair of Tamiya LEDs. I also wanted the inside of the body to be cleaner with less extra wire and no LED controller box.

Powered off the receiver at 6 volts...

One 5mm and two 3mm white LEDs at each corner up front...

Two 5mm red LEDs at each corner out back...

All done!

Very nice, I had built one of these a while ago. Agreed that the body is some work, took me 3 nights working on and off! Totally worth it though.
