Question best motor combo for xv-01 newby?

I have a xv-01(rally ready) with the stock motor, and I wanted to know if there was any brushless motor combo that had a wire that was long enough. also one very important thing: it needs to have everything soldered. I don't have a solder iron. so is there any?

thank you

You could always have your LHS solder up longer wires for you. The ones I've been to are usually fairly reasonable with work like that.

There aren't any with long enough wires stock. You'll have to get a friend or a hobby shop to solder wires of a suitable length for you.

Anyway, as far as the motor is concerned, something in the vicinity of 3000KV will give you a good amount of speed with a wide range of adjustment possible by changing the pinion gear. Remember it's technically an off-road car, so you don't want a super-high-speed motor or you'll overheat it running on anything except pavement.

I use Team Orion Method Pro brushed motors for all my non-crawler brushed-motor needs. Something in the vicinity of 15 turns with a 25-30 tooth 48p pinion should work well. (if you're still running the stock spur gear, you'll have to get Robinson Racing Mod 0.6 gears instead of 48p -- the same gear range would be 22-27 teeth for that gear pitch.)

I use Tacon motors for all my brushless motor needs. I had one vehicle that ran a Tacon sensored motor, but I sold that truck, and I haven't missed the supposed extra precision of running a sensored motor. All my other brushless motors are sensorless and they work just fine. Tacon is made by the same company as Leopard, though, and Leopard has a decent selection of sensored brushless motors if you really want one. Of course there are other brands, but Tacon/Leopard are inexpensive and durable enough for my needs.

Okay, you'll want about a 23t 48p pinion gear for that KV. Also, get the XV-01 slipper clutch kit if you don't have it yet, it lets you use 48p gears. (The original gears are Mod 0.6, which is an inconvenient size.)

I am trying to use as less money as possible, so I want to ask you. is the slipper clutch necessary?
also, thank you!

Which pinion gearing are you guys using for a 10.5 motor with the 77t spur gear 48 pitch that comes with the slipper clutch?

The motor mount allows a minimum tooth count of 100t, so you can run pinion gears from 23t - 38t. Larger than 38t will require cutting on the inside of the gear cover. You can also run an 81t spur gear from Associated (the slipper pads are the same size and shape), which will let you run pinion gears as low as 19t.

My XV-01s are geared thus:

Touring car w/ 4000KV (9t) brushless motor: 32/77 = 40mph
Touring car w/ 12t brushed motor: 24/77 = 30mph
Rally car w/ 12t brushed motor: 19/81 = 26mph
Rally car w/ 27t brushed motor: 40/65 = 25mph

If you want something stock that will drop right in and have long enough wires you could get castle sct set up. The wires are plenty long and it's what I run in my xv-01 pro.

Looking for some advice. Would a castle sidewinder sct esc with 4 pole 3800 brushless combo be a reasonable choice? I would be running on 2s.

I have a tazer 12t esc and 15t brushed combo laying around but was thinking a brushless system would be a nice upgrade.

It's fundamentally a touring car. It doesn't need 4-pole. However, if 4-pole is what you have, it will work fine. The KV is in the right range.
