Before I start the build being this is my first rally kit. Any advice on issues that are common with the Tamiya kits? I know I went to big on the motor, but I wanted to go big or break. |

The stock Plastic suspension blocks are weak. Replace them with the carbon reinforced ones or aluminum ones. Upgrade to threaded dampers, yeah racing makes decent ones that fit a tight budget compared to TRFs. Don't go too high with your suspension, 12-18mm ride height is good for street and off road. Aluminum pulley wheels and reinforced belt are nice to have. I run a 13.5 with the slipper clutch. You can use 48pitch pinions and the supplied spur or get smaller ones from jconcepts or associated that take a hex slipper pad. The xv-01 is awesome! Routing the ESC to motor is a pain, but if you do it right, you should rarely ever need to open the electronic box. The servo saver that it comes with sucks. Get a MST alloy servo saver if your budget allows. Kimbrough didn't work well for me. Once you tune your preloads, this car will rarely oversteer. Make sure you set up your rear suspension correctly, since the arms are reversible. The holes are off by 0.5mm which might screw with your handling (it did for me for the longest time till I did a rebuild). I am not sure what terrain you will run on, but the xv-01 on road is very good, off road is awesome fun especially with a high power motor. Hpi X pattern tires work very well for most surfaces. That is all I have for now. Catch me over atthe Rctech xv-01 forum. I have posed a ton over there with pictures! Enjoy your badass xv-01 |
