Default Clay goes MOA....

Well Gentlemen,

I finally did it. I've been competing with a built Venom Creeper at the ORCRC series, but will most likely be going pro by the end of the season. Now... I've been planning this for a couple months, and my girlfriend was awesome enough to buy me the last piece to the puzzle for Christmas. BULLY AXLES!!

I didn't do a build thread or take pictures, but I think the final results will speak for themselves. Please tell me what you think and any input is greatly appreciated, as I am still new to this.

thanks!
  • Bully cast axles V2
  • JP Hellstrom chassis
  • JP lower links
  • Integy 3.5" piggyback res shocks in front (RC18 springs)
  • LCC shocks in rear
  • Dual FX-R ESCs
  • Hitec HV servo (480oz @ 7v)
  • Castle BEC
  • Integy 45T pro motors
  • stock gearing (12T I believe)

Looks fantastic.

I really like your idea of the foam to keep the electrics in position, I may have to appropriate that idea

Came out great. I like what you did with the Lower Links. You might want to take a piece of Plastic or Thin Delrin for more support for the Battery. That velco has a 20lb pull. I use the same stuff. After a few good rolls and hard falls. It still comes loose.

yeah thank you. It just hit me, and I had some foam laying around. it fits in there very snug. I know the dual lock velcro has it's limits but damn... it's strong.

thanks for the kind words guys, last night we flipped the front shocks around to get the resevoirs pointing down, thus allowing the body to be lowered in the front. I think it looks better now.

today is payday so it's on to Nova's Ark foams and then I'll be ready to rock and roll.

we ran it last night outside on the rocks. It seems to do really well, just need time to learn to drive it.

I got very used to the shafty feeling, and this is very different. I do see the benefits of a little clod stall though! and I LOVE the instant dig...

also, when I was greasing the gears and bearings, I couldn't believe how BEEFCAKE the axles are?!?

Yeah these are heavy duty for sure,,Ive had mine so bound up that full throttle actually threw the whole rig clear out of the hole...and no ill effects afterward...cant say the same for the other rigs Ive seen bind up the same way,,gotta love out of the box beasty

do you know how much it weighs yet?

i took it into work the other day for just that!! minus the two motors, it was EXACTLY 7 lbs with battery. So I'm probably just under 8. not the lightest, but I'll be getting lightweight tubes in the rear, and then getting rid of the 3.5oz in each front wheel. that should hopefully keep a similar weight bias, while getting rid of 3/4 lb.

** in theory **

I was thinking about doing my links like that. Just a little bend in them would help on the clearence a lot. What to the best way to bend them.

yeah I might have been doing something different, but I needed the bends in order to keep the motor housing from hitting the links during full articulation. I just put them in a vice, heated slowly with a small torch, and bent them. Turned out okay, although you need to be careful not to overheat the delrin (it will bubble)
