Took the family to the beach and brought bob. Had some fun driving beach trails and rompin around on the beach. Came home a did a run on the rocks. Good stuff. Need to work on my decals, last ones got wet and peeled. Thinking I need to clear coat the edges. Always a learning curve. Like the look with the mud flaps |

Chassis was all new when i put this truck together so you can see its got some miles on it. Only drivetrain issues i had was the rear end was slipping gears at one point so I shimmed the pinion and put it back together. No more issues. I'm thinking these shocks should be good for another 100,000 miles |

That 4runner is sweeet!! Looks just like the 1:1 runners I see around town, same mudflaps as the 1:1 and the same location exhaust dump!

Needed to replace the shocks. Hopefully the rods on these won't peel. Went with rc4wd bilsteins 100mm front, 80mm rear. The rears will be mounted on the top axle mounting position for spring clearance. Removed the inner springs and added 60wt oil |

Decided to open up the front axle to see how things were looking. Yup, its ugly. Time to replace all the bearings. Ironically the long axle side didn't have the small 5x8x2.5 bearing. Not sure if that was by design or by mistake. I will try to put one in anyways. Disassembled the cvds and cleaned up the parts. For the most part they looked pretty good, just the pins were really worn. Found some rod lying around that fit perfect in the worn cvds. The pins measured 2.18 mm dia and the rod I had measured 2.33mm so its quite a bit larger but took all the slop out. I think the rod is actually 3/32" but don't hold me to it. Knuckles were getting pretty sloppy so i decided to do new brass bushings with brass tubing. I used K&S 3/16" and 5/32" (K&S part # 8128 and 8129) which have a perfect sliding fit in each other and the 3/16" bushings have a perfect tight fit in the worn knuckle. If its too tight just drill it out with a 3/16" bit. The smaller inner bushings need to be cut a bit longer. Then use traxxas fiber washers on both sides when reassembling for thrust bushings. Traxxas part # 1685. I will have to wait for reassembly until my new 5x8x2.5 bearings arrive. Also took out the diff gears and shimmed the pinion. Used the smaller of the traxxas fiber washers (part # 1685) for the pinion shim between the pinion and the inner bearing. You may not be able to get the c-clip back on but doesn't matter much as I just used another washer between the outer bearing and the driveline to take out the slop. Weather is nice today so the rest of the day will be spent painting. Hopefully I will have some pics to post later. |

Got some new bearings and installed them in both axles. Heres a few pics of the final install with all new bushings. I made the inner bushings quite a bit longer so i could use longer screws and get more threads in the axle housing. Everything is nice and tight. |

New shocks installed and some brown color laid down. Looking pretty sick with deep dish rims and swampers |

Beautiful job bobbing that bed, I'd love to do that to mine but I'd rather dig up a septic tank than do body work lol

Got all the bits a pieces back together. Took it for a test drive. Front axle and steering is super solid. Paint looks pretty good. Flat brown for the win? Let me know what you think. Cheers |

I forgot to mention I did open up the front fender to be able to run these wheels and tires. They still rub a bit but not bad. |

I asked my wife what she thought and she said it looked kind of... poopy. I kind of have to agree. I dunno, I think it needs a different color |
