Default making a rs10 into a rock racer?

Whats it gonna take? Is it even possible? Is rock racing with an rs10 worth the time and money?

no. You need a shafty for that kind of abuse. If you wanna crawl or do some trail ridin then they're ok. But go shafty for rock racing IMO.

With the wheelspeed mine has, it could be considered rock racer-ish. The more speed you have, the easier it becomes to break stuff. So at MINIMUM you'll want steel gears, hardened drive pins, aluminum diff covers, aluminum steering knuckles, a high torque metal geared servo, lock the rear steer, get faster motors, do any necessary upgrades to make said motors work (i.e. 540 install), an ESC that can handle a 3s lipo, and convert to 3s lipos. Is it worth the time and money? I doubt it. With the money you spent for all of those upgrades, you could buy a nice used shafty and turn it into a better rock racer.

I am actually gonna buy some faster 540 motors and test this after i get my build done. I'm going to use this thing as a crawler and a rock racers. Check out my Texas Redcat build. Might be awhile before i do the faster motors as I'm still building the rig.

Hey JSOWENS.

Have you, or anyone else, some video of a RS-10 on 3s lipo and 540's?

I figured the rig wasn't fast enough to be a rock racer, but I would like to see what kind of speed it IS capable of. And I'll compare it to some wraith videos for reference.

Nope, I've not seen a video or comparison with a Wraith personally. I've been tempted to try a 3s lipo on mine just for kicks. Hmm...maybe I'll borrow a 3s battery from one of my buddies sometime and see what happens and try to get video. I've never seen a Wraith run in person, but a guy I know recently got one so the next time I see him I'll try to get some comparison for you guys.

Couldn't wait.
Stopped in at my local hobby shop today and bought a 3s 2200mah 35c. I'm running RC4wd sealled can 45t 540's. With this setup, I'd say.........no. not quite fast enough for a rock racer. BUT, with a different motor choice, you might get better results.

No video yet. Ran out of daylight.

Change them motors to 20t and Id bet youd be there...now whether or not that is a good idea or not as far as being able to handle it I cant say...but speed wise...it should zoom

I'll be put'n a call in to zno next week for a pair of these RS10 Aluminum Spur Gear Pin Plate

I recommend them. I upgraded and haven't had a problem. If you get the hardened pins they fit in the groove like a glove. No torquing back and forth for premature wear and tear.

I would say dual Novak Kinetics with a pair of 10.5 ballistic motors, you should be fine with a 2s pack.

Two things should be done BEFORE you drive it...

1) Most improtant, make SURE you have someone to video.

2)Order a set of gears

On a serious note, I don't think it would be a problem, especially with an R1 chassis.

That would be insane to spend that much on brushless setups for a crawler of this caliber haha. It would be MUCH cheaper to toss some 35t or even 27t 540's in there with a 3s pack and still have quite a bit of power.

I will admit, if I were to happen to have 2 of those brushless systems just laying around...I would be pretty damn tempted to put them in a RS10 for kicks.

Hmm.... THAT is tempting!! I could "borrow" one out of one of my electric cars and use the spare I have. It would really throw some people for a loop if I raced it

Well, I ordered diff pin housings, and HH torque-masters in a 35 turn. So, as soon as ZNO gets these over the border, I'll get some video of those QUALITY 35t's on my 3s lipo.

With the $10 45t's, I could run forward, hit reverse, and roll over on my roof. I was trying to get my lightweight back-end to grab and pop a wheely, but thats when I shredded the diff pin housing. but hey, it lasted a whole year of abuse.
