| Removeing paint from the stock Hummer body (and the new look!!!)
I Just decided to give some testors paint thinner a try. It seems to be working quite well. Somebady PLEASE stop me if you think I'm gonne melt the plastic off!!! Anybody find something else that works? I have a new stage Killah body on the way, But I've never painted lexan before. Thought I'd do a trial run on the Hummer body. Okay, The paint thinner worked like a hot-damn! But I had to use q-tips to get into all the little grooves. That grill on TOP of the hood was a real pain-in-the-ass. Then once I got it all off, I had to switch to brake fluid to clean off the paint thinner. Then I washed it with dishsoap. Now I'm switching to whiskey. (for me, not the body) |

Lexan is super easy to paint, but do yourself a favor and use paint made for lexan, such as Faskolor. If you use something like testors or some other kind of model paint it just flakes off if your body takes any hits and flexes. Faskolor is cheap at a LHS and you can brush it on if you want. The body on my rs10 was painted with it and I just brushed it on with a paintbrush.

The plastic looks a bit cloudy after it's dried off. But I don't think it would show through after paint. It might have just saved me the work of sanding the inside to prime it. This is going to be a full spray-can job. I'm ghetto like that . But I do hope to use lexan paints. I haven't set on a colour scheme yet though. And I have NO IDEA what to paint my NEW body like, otherwise I'd buy the same colours to save a buck. I might want to do the hummer in something rediculous; like yellow. |

Allright. Just finished up my first ever lexan paint project. I read up a bunch of tutorials and decided to try Several different techniques. Like different masking materials, splatter effect, a fade, and trying different backing colors for a differnt finishing effect. Being that this WAS just a practice project, I did get pretty wild with the color choice. But I like how it turned out. With the yellow, I can see all the little bits of stock paint that I DIDN't get off. I would have prefered they weren't there, but, they give it a bit of a dirty look. I can live with it. |

It took me a month to come up with this scheme. I have NO CLUE what to do with the stage killah lid I got from ZNO. The layers in this body have Flourescent yellow, metalic black, metalic blue, white, and silver. Thats what i currently have to work with. |

That was the easy part. Just don't mask it off. let the overspray do the work. Then I backed the blue with silver where I didn't want the yellow to show through. the yellow was the last colour to go on, besides the white backing coat. | |

Allright, Got some confessing. The paint thinner wasn't the best choice. It DID dry out the lexan, and made it a bit brittle. I had a few end over end rolls down an impossible hill today. (crawl till it can't) The body cracked in three places after about 12 good falls. Pretty sure good shape lexan would still be O.K.. When I tried the Brake cleaner at first, it didn't really do much for the stock paint. Maybe I didn't leave it on long enough. Paint thinner = Broken bodies. |
