Default First mods/upgrades?

So I just got my cat a few days ago off craigslist. It came with proline hammers and a hpi servo up front and a hitec in the rear. The rear servo isn't hooked up because I have no servo arm for it and the link is attached to the servo directly until I get a new arm. What are some key upgrades or needed mods for the cat that help it out the most? I know that I will get some rovers later but the hammers are handling everything fine for now. Any advice will help. Also new servo suggestions. Thanks

First do a quick search 'rs10 mods' or something like that and have a look through people threads not mine.... as they will show the first mods ect they have done. A little research will go a long way with the rs10 as most do the same mods. But a decent cheap servo would be a ckrc 208oz, crawford 208oz or a tower pro 208oz they are all the same metal gears have decent torque and are about $20.

Will all servos bolt right up in place with no modifications?

Would it be a good idea to get aluminum servo arms or do they ever break?

Yes get the alum sero arm, they are like $i8 shipped on ebay.If i were you i would put that hitec up front and the hpi in the rear,it a better servo.Metal gears are a nice cheap upgrade.I have never used the tires your running, but i do like both hot bodies tires(roveres and sedonas)other than that get that bad boy on a pile and enjoy.

Most people replace the spurr gear pin before they brake and chew up gears

I was thinking about putting the hitec up front. Depending on how well it works I may just order another one.

First thing I did was to replace the dif pins and remove the foam from my tires. Just replaced my servos today with towerpro mg945 s and put some led's on it just in case I decided to go night crawling

Which hitec servo is installed? Hitec makes some nicer servos, so it's tough to recommend something without knowing what you have. The proline hammers are decent tires, so stick with those and see how you like them. If they don't do well on your local terrain, you can look into upgrades.

Taking care of little things like the diff pin are good, easy fixes. If you're content not having rear steer, you could go ahead and remove the rear servo and lock out the rear steer. Other cheap things you can do is tinker with the setup and try to understand what those changes make to the truck. If you tinker with the setup, try making one change at a time and see if it helps or hinders it.

Aside from that, just drive the truck and replace things as you see fit, or as they need it. One hugely beneficial upgrade you could make, assuming you're still using the stock battery/charger, is to invest in a good charger and some lipos.

There was a thread a while back about using dig with the stock radio, but if I recall correctly it required a fair bit of modding to work. I used a dig setup for a while with a modded traxxas tq3 radio and it worked well.

Servos are the biggest weak link in the truck so you already have that covered. Hardened gear pin (and steel gears if you gonna be in the tranny anyway) would be good. Some bent links will help you clear the rocks better. I'm thinking of upgrading the stock esc to a Novak m2 soon

I was looking at the m2 also. Seems to bea an easier dig setup since its built into the esc. Post it up if u get it and let us know how it works with the rs10.

Don't have any experience with building anything from scratch. May try it in the future to see what happens. Gotta start somewhere.

It's true, we get these questions quite a bit, I think there should be a thread that would show first mods/must do ect. It would make it easier for newbs to the rs10.
