| Something different. 14th Scale crawler from an everest 16
As the title says. A while back i picked up an everest 16. Killer little rig for $100. Well after getting bored with the comp style and me never being able to leave anything alone, i started my venture to make it something awesome. these were the stock photos of how it comes. Couldnt stand the small body. So i went and bought a new bright 14th scale silverado....thought i was getting 12th scale (thatll teach me not to research more). didnt quite fit. Luckily i decided to buy a cnc machine to remedy this issue. I designed a ladder frame to match up with the stock mounting points of the old frame with a slight twist. I brought the upper link mounts in 3/4 of an inch to make up for the wheel base so i would only have to cut the lower links and the driveshafts.last one was before modifying the lower links. Here it is cut and fit to the body i will confess. The frame is more of a mega truck style not nessicarily a stock truck look. That being said i didnt want it to look this crazy so today i took a trip down to the lfs and stumbled upon some 14th scale sct wheels and tires cheap that just so happened to fit well with the body to look closer to a daily driver with a custome chassis. I also took off the springs to let the chassis sit lower. Im waiting on 70mm shocks to show up to make it look more scale. i took it a step further and designed a chassis mount for the servo with a piece for a panhard if i want to 3 link the truck. Made a link to go from the axle to the servo and shes a running truck again. still haven't decided exactly how im gonna mount the body. I know the paint needs to be changed and im gonna make headlight and tail light buckets so it has working lights too. Its been a hell of a journey doing a build that i haven't seen done yet. Depending on the interest i get, i might make up kits for people that want to go the same route with a 16th or 14th scale rig. Hope you all enjoyed what I've done so far. Im not even close to finished yet. Might try my hand at custom bumpers out of styrene and an interior for the truck too. Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk |

A CNC machine? Are they affordable now? I would love to make my own chassis like that! Very cool.

Definitely not cost effective unless you are mass producing. I think im gonna put a kit together for these since there is a small following and it honestly didnt cost much for the body or tires so its a pretty cost effect set up. Im gonna start doing chassis for any vehicle someone wants one for Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk |

Wow, good job! It's shaping up to be an awesome little rig.

Heres a quick update. Did decide to do a copy of my 1:1 just make it the way it will look eventually lol. Happy with the way the panit came out Still not 100% happy with the headlights. Too many bubbles in the epoxy. Might try clear silicone next but it will have to work til i get more leds Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk |

Well......shes all done up. Ran her first crawl today. Needs weight in the tires but otherwise, it flexed out well. I may have gone a little overboard with the lights though lol |

Awesome! I've been slowly working on an E16 conversion myself. Going a different direction, though. Mine will only have a 7"-7.5" wheelbase. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk |

Yea this one ended up about 9. If you need a chassis let me know

Been working on making one. Just have hand tools, a rotary tool, and an angle grinder. No CNC goodness. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk |

Those cutouts are going to be a lot of work. Those on the shock towers aren't all that necessary, just weight reduction. But those toward the center of the chassis are where the original upper y-link will go through the chassis...I hope. I'm also contemplating how to do a 4-link mount. If I work that out, I'll go that route instead. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk | |

Thats a pretty bad ass idea!!! I really like the design. Im wondering if the uppers would bind in those cut outs? Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk |

That's what I wondered as well. I did as close of measurements as I could for the centerline of the link in its full range of vertical motion I then drew the centerline in its highest and lowest orientations. Then measured 3mm above and below respectively to determine the cutout dimensions. If you watch the link movement on the original chassis, there's only about 1cm of movement about 1.5cm from the center of the ball-end which is the area that passes through my chassis. All of the articulation occurs at the axle so no worries of the links twisting in the chassis. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk |

Sounds like that should work well then. Very good planning and measuring Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk |

I didn't even think, until last night, about measuring the motor/trans assembly for clearance. Would clear on the motor side but won't clear on the spur gear cover side. I guess I'll just have to figure out a 4-link setup. Also, you may already know but a lot of Losi Mini Rock Crawler parts will fit the Everest 16 with little or no fitting. The actual link would cut through in that same spot on mine. Wouldn't work out. That's ok. I'd rather have 4-link anyway. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk |
