I've been wanting to add tail lights to my Marksman and it took a while to find something I felt was suitable. Finally I came across these Traxxas tail lights that are for their 6 x 6. I ordered them up along with a set of Axial LEDs. The lens and chrome bucket fit on the outside of the body and the black backing plate goes on the inside. Pretty close in shape and size to the decal tail lights. I think they'll do quite nicely. I started by using a body reamer to put two holes in the body that matched the mounting holes on the backing plate. I put the backing plate in place in the holes and used it as a template to mark where I need to cut out with a silver Sharpie. Next I used the body reamer again to make the holes bigger so I could start cutting with my lexan scissors. Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk Last edited by JimK; 01-17-2024 at 10:38 PM. |

I cut a rough opening with my lexan scissors and then carefully shaped the hole with a fresh blade in my hobby knife. I kept shaving the opening until the chrome light bucket fit snuggly into the opening. Once the light bucket was in place the lens fit over top of it. A little bit of the tail light decal showed on the outside of the lens cover so I peeled that off. The black backing plate fits over this chrome piece on the inside of the body. There's a hole for the tail light and a smaller hole above it for a reverse light but I'm only installing a red led in the tail light holes. I imagine these are meant to be used with one of Traxxas' Pro Scale light kits. Two small screws hold the assembly together from the outside sandwiching the lexan body between the inner and out pieces. I repeated the same procedure for the passenger side tail light and thankfully the installation of both lights went pretty smoothly. I think the new lights look pretty good and size wise they are appropriate for the back end of the Marksman. All lit up and ready to go. I still need to organize the wires under the body but otherwise I'm done. Nice and bright and these should greatly reduce my chances of getting rear ended out on the trail!!
