Question Radio Question - 4ch. OR 6ch. ???

I'll planning to start a super bully build soon.
I've been gathering parts, but need a radio. I want complete control of the rig and my 3pm or 3pk isn't going to cut it. I was thinking I just need 4 channels, throttle and steering for front and rear. Would I be better off with a 6ch radio ? Is there channel mixes I should have, that a 4ch. radio can't do ? I need some super drivers opinions !

Well, I just setup a DX6 and started using it with my super and I am quite happy. Complete control over all channels....no waiting for the servo to move after you push a button 20 times. Is using a stick radio something that you think you'll be able to adjust to? If so, I say go for it...

I think that's the deal breaker really.

Having a 6 ch. stick is definitley a plus,no question asked. You can do some really cool things with 2 ESC's and a stick radio.

A 3 or 4 ch. radio can still be competative though. Personally, with a stick radio,I'm all thumbs.

well, thanks for your responses guys.

I should have been more clear. either radio is going to be a stick. It comes down to price, a 4ch. stick for $60 OR a 6ch stick for $150 ?

Do I NEED 6 channels , Like a DX6 ?

I'm trying to stay on budget. I also thought about a DX5e for $100

So do I really need all 6 channels ???

You can EASILY get a DX6 for cheaper than $150. I got mine from eaby for $100 shipped...including one Rx. I am not sure what 4Ch stick radio you are considering, but the DX6 is a nice radio that has almost every feature that I would like.

I don't know if you really need all 6 channels, but make sure you at least get a 2.4 system, either Spektrum or the Futaba FAST. No glitching and you'll never have any interference from some one elses radio

I would stay away from the DX5, it doesn't have EPA adjustments, which is no bueno for digital servos.

Thanks malach, I didn't know that about the DX5.

And I was planning on getting a 2.4G. I had 1 runway while racing 1/8 nitro offroad truggies about 2 year ago. That one wreck cost me almost $1000, it ruined a modified .21 motor that cost $600 !

You can shop around and get a used dx6 or 6i for really reasonable prices, they pop up in the FS section frequently, I found mine on local craigslist...$40 for just the transmitter, another $40 for a receiver from the FS board here, and $5 for a cam from Jetboat in the vendors section. I had the extra speed control and it was out the door to get practice time.
Other places to look are rcuniverse.com and ebay. Might look into researching local swapmeets for rc plane and heli clubs.

I love my stick radio and the options it gives me, I won't be going back to a pistol.

You cant really go wrong with a DX6 or comparable stick radio....the main thing is DSM and programming for end points and mixing.

Personally i just modified my 4pk so the upper dial on the handle is a self centering stick to control the rear steer. Now i dont have to carry and stay comfortable with two different radio systems.

Colorado twin stick

It's the way most of us Colorado guys are running their sticks.

Patrick, 666, is the one that got me turned onto sticks / the JIA method, of setting up and running a stick. Basically, left stick controls throttle, right stick does steering, for both front and rear.
