and I'm sure Ryan from East Coast RC is open for offering custom super tires for very fair conditions : East Coast RC, ecrchobbies, RC Rock Crawlers. The tires are much easier to get than the CF chassis

| Re: Dani's Chaotic SuperSpecial Pro Berg yeah, but you know, it's a berg, so no issues, no broken gears and no further costs if it's built once. That makes it a bit easier to invest some money. |

Coming from 1:1 stuff, RC stuff is super cheap. I just priced some tires for my 1:1 and it came out to $2600 and those would wear out in a year or so! So, yeah, $200 for some custom super tires or $300 for some bling wheels is not bad IMO.

Question: What are the pros and cons to a Khaos on a super tire over a BC or any other pin? I have never used anything other than BC on my 2.2 so I am in the dark.

I took some time last night to finish building the Khaos tires and this morning I got started on the Rovers. I've got one built and all of the sidewalls and treads cut and ready to glue |

I feel the same way about the Boss Claws on supers as I do on 2.2's. The lugs are just too soft in my opinion...not as predictable of a tire for my use. I know they work well for a lot of drivers, but I couldn't ever settle into them. On a super the lug integrity would be even more noticeable I believe. I think it also has to do with the investment in the tires and the time building them and whether or not you're willing to replace them twice as fast if not sooner. I also don't like gluing the Losi rubber...I'm no chemist but for whatever reason they just don't glue as well as the HB tires. They also cost $6-8 bucks more per pair...it all adds up. There's also a bit less work involved in building the Khaos tires for a super than building a set of Boss Claws. If you want smooth sidewalls...the Khaos are already smooth and the Boss Claws will require sanding. The sanding is what takes the most time and is the most aggravating part of building these things...especially when you sit down with 4-8 8" tires that all need the same thing. Back on point...I think the biggest issue with using Boss Claws is the rubber compound and the size of the lugs which determine the lug integrity. If the carcass was a little thicker with the soft lugs it might work better, but they're just thin all around. Rovers and Sedonas are great examples how I think a tire should be built. They both have a super thin tire carcass which allows the tread lugs to conform and wrap around objects. When I build the narrowed Khaos tires for my 2.2pro rig I spend a little more time to remove as much rubber as I feel comfortable with. I remove the ribbing from the Khaos and the sidewall ribbing from the Rover sidewalls and then go back over the entire inside of the tire to soften them up as much as possible. This also leads to having a custom tire that weighs the same or less than most Boss Claws...even with shaved sidewalls.

it's time for some updates, guys. Some of you knew my old Super with the Alu wheels; cause the Alu has bent from time to time, I decided month ago, to make some CF parts insted of Alu. So the Super was sold (with the alu wheels) and the CF parts were still there. And I had a set of 4 Super Sedonas on heavy Blast rims. Ryan from East Coast RC makes me two sets of great wheels, one with Rovers, one with Khaos, so I decided to make some CF rings and use the CF parts from my old Super to do a third, ultra lightweight set of wheels. Thought and done, got some parts yesterday: Alu Spacers, my 7 gramm Skid and some CF inner rings and some Delrin Spacers. First I've done was one of the wheels: the Design was the same as my old Alu wheels, designed by Highfly from Germany, but with only 6 (former 12) screws and for using VP hubs. OD is 115 mm so exactly what a Trencher sidewall need to fit. I used Alu hardware, spacers are made of Delrin/POM, outside CF is 2.5 mm in Top Quality, inner rings are 1.5 mm CF. and that's the weight then: 39.5 gramms / 1.27 oz without Hub but with all hardware So I was full of expectation what a complet wheel would be on the scale... But first I had to shave the heavy Super Sedonas; they are 7.4" tall: and sip: what a mess! But I like this kind of work, if I can see all the gramms sputtering away and the scale shows me, that the work has been done not so bad: 195.9 gramms / 6.3 oz - no Texas tires anymore, Shelby I think I have to make a diet with Eriks amazing wheels, if they arriving Switzerland stay tuned, it will be continued... I've only got two more of the Khaos tires to shave then mount up and the tires/wheels will be done. Then we're just waiting on the the other parts before shipping |

Looking good as usual Dani. I am using your build as a comparison to mine as far as weight goes. I am still using narrowed Blast wheels at 1 inch for now. |

| Re: Dani's Chaotic SuperSpecial Pro Berg Oops....sorry. Here is a link: http://toolguyd.com/blog/wp-content/...ding-Discs.jpg It is just sanding discs that attach to the EZLock mount. I shave a full set of tires over the weekend and they turned out quite well. Some of the best I have done. The disk gives you quite precise sanding. |
