Default My first super build

Got some questions.

Bully or berg?
For the bully axles what would need to be done?

What would be required for a set of bergs? I see on TCS I can pick up a set of the 2.2 axles for $219. Could I get an extra set of tubes and use only the long tubes? Is there any mods that would have to be done?

Not looking to get the lightest rig!!!

I know that with the bullies there's not that much that needs to be done, but I guess I like the idea of bergs because there bergs!

It seems that it is hard to find parts for bergs vs. bullies.

Bully's = duribility, Berg's = $.
That's just the axles, the rest of the rig will be very similar. JMO

Is that because bergs break or the initial setup?

Yeah, some of the stock berg stuff wont last long in a 2.2, let alone a super. If you get a set of berg axles (+ two extra long tubes to make them super axles), you'll need to upgrade the shafts and at a minimum, the 3rd gear. SDS makes nice Super 300's (and I imagine the new 300HDs as well) and some 3rd gears that will work nicely in a super.

The bully's are pretty much turn key.

Decided to go with the Bully's.
Here is what I have so far
Lightweight 65:1 Bullys
2 Hitec 7980
HH Torquemasters 35t
2 FXR's
Bearings for knuckle mod
A set of Moab's for sidewalls
I think they are Cheyenne wheels (need to be narrowed)

Still need to get:
Chassis (wanna get the Superjuice)
2 BEC's
2 Hitec 7980
Links
4 sets of Rovers
4PL RX
Weight retainers
Slug

I am sure that I am missing something. Let me know if you think there is something I should get.

Looking for as much advice as I can milk out of ya!!!!

I may have a V2 Super Juice chassis with links available soon as I am building up on a V3 carbon chassis right now.

Hey Jamie. Wish I would have seen this thread before, I would have tried to steer you towards the bergs. I HATE my super bully axles. My tubes stripped out at the kingpin over and over again. The XVD axles shafts dont hold up well, at least they have not held up for me. I ordered the D-lux delrin tubes. The AX10 c-hubs will solve the tube stripping problem. But I will still be using bully knuckels and XVD axles. I toasted all of my axle shafts in one season. Just had to replace them all. Guess $80 in replacment shafts every 12 months isnt too bad, but snapping a axle shaft in half during a comp sucks.

Go with the super juice V3 and some Ti links from Marc. Single 7980's have been working for me. I will have some SVEN 7980 mounts you can use. Ditch the holmes motors for some 45t Broods on 3S. I have a pair of New Brood 45t GT arms that might fit those cans. I will have a drilling jig you can borrow to drill out your 65:1 gears for weight savings.

It will be good to have you in the super class.

You know, i was going to go with some bergs, but got scared with the lack of parts (or lack of knowledge)!!! Then had buyers remorse after hitting the buy button!!
I am thinking that i will try and get a pre-order in Friday for some of those Dlux tubes. I guess i just don't know enough about what is needed to go that route. do i have to order the 300HD's for them to work or will the stock XVD's work for the time being?

I would like to go with AX10 knuckles. Was wondering if the XR knuckles would work...

Really?! Bela's seemed to crapping out with a single 7980 front and rear. Wondering if his BEC is set really low or they are wore out.
I was thinking of going 2 up front and 2 in the rear. That way i have all the turning power i could ever need.
Waiting to hear from Mike about one of those fancy servo mounts!!!

Would love to!! But right now i have these sitting around. Maybe i will throw them up in the classifieds. I have 45t armatures for those HH cans as well.

After the wedding in Sept. Things should be bought pretty quick...

For the D-lux tubes.

You can run the stock XVD's with Axial c-hubs and Bully knuckles.

To run D-lux tubes with axial C-hubs and knuckles with SD shafts you would need to get the shafts cut to the proper length with the proper drive tang for the bully lockers.

PM Dave, JB, and D-lux about Berg questions.

My servos will get maxed out in a bind from time to time but its nothing a little throttle can't fix. But 7980's all around would be nice. I am going as light as I can so I will be sticking with the single 7980's.

Jamie,
I'd be more than happy to answer any Berg questions for ya.
I sat down with Dave to help him narrow down what he needed/wanted when he started building his rig.
After running my SuperBerg for 2+ seasons, I have yet to break anything... Build it right/strong the first time, it's worth it!

Thanks JB!
So where would be a good starting point?
Could I pick up a set of 2.2 axles and an extra set of tubes?

If you ordered straight from RC4WD you may be able to cancell your order.

I wish I would have started with Berg axles. I plan to run the modified bully setup for the 2012/2013 season. Meanwhile I will start gathering parts to build super Berg axles. Whatever the cost differance it is worth it.

Yup, set of 2.2 axles is your 1st step... Or you could get just cases and gears if you wanted other tubes.
2nd step is looking at tube options.
- D-Lux has got some nice delrin tubes.
- or you could buy just another pair of berg long sides and have then turned down and notched for servos through MF&W, Marc does all my machining that I can't/don't want to do myself.

That will get you started in the right direction, hit me up at our next comp and I'll hit you with more ideas/options. Sounds like this will be a slow build, so this should get you by for now.

To bad I already have them sitting on my table

I'm gonna sell the bullies and start getting everything for bergs.

Are cases and gears not availible seperately?
