You need a 32pitch pinion to match the gears in the case.
The lower the # of teeth, the more torque you'll have.
9tooth and larger will fit w/o motor mounts but 8tooth & below will NEED them.

You can get motor mounts for your C L O D from several Vendors on the board.

You could also try using a higher turn motor to get away w/ less pinion...
ie;
65turn or 75t lathes w/ 9 or 10 tooth pinions, should be close to a 55t w/ 8 tooth pinions.

I hope this helps ya.
Good luck!

Did you read the stickies?
How to build a Clodbuster Rock Crawler
Clod FAQ and Directory

Both of them list places to get adjustable motor mounts.

It is possible to run a 10 tooth without any mods. You just remove the brass sleeves from the motor mount screws and that gives you enough slop to get the gear mesh right.

Another option is to dremel a slot out of the lower hole (or just enlarge it a bit) to allow you to adjust the motor.

Adjustable mounts are the best way to go though.
