| Top Secret Dig Setup - Just discovered...
Thought I would share this great idea for Front or Rear Dig. I am going to incorporate it in my next build. Many thanks to the Old Timer R/C guy that told me about it!!! I was looking for a switch to replace the one in the DUD setup on my Clod, he recommended this: He said they used to use these to shut off the motors in R/C Gliders once they reached altitude. Opto-Isolated E-Switch Solid-state replacement for a servo and switch! Adjustable ON point, reversing switch, and LED indicator. Use as “old timer” ignition cut-off, GLO driver switch. 1.5 x 1.5 x .75 - weight .5 ounce! Switch up to 24 volts, 20 amps! http://emsjomar.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=6 Perfect! No servo needed. AND It will handle 24 volts at 20 amps!!!! Couldn't resist sharing some "top secret" tricks. Have fun! Freq Last edited by FreqEsKinz; 04-29-2007 at 07:19 PM. Reason: Forgot to add link. |

I'm not sure I get it either. So that will replace the Servo and the Switch. And still cut power to the rear motor???????

run2: Yes exactly right . Instead of using a servo to hit a switch, this does it all in one box. It's a relay switch triggered by remote control. Also, at only 1.5x1.5x.75 inches it is quite small. I am ordering one tomorrow, so I'll be posting info on it ASAP. Most likely by weeks end. |

The way it was explained, you solder the hot wire to those two tabs on the circuit board and it will cut power when triggered via the 3rd channel. Like I said, I don't have it in hand but, based on the info and specs, it should be the ticket. |

I wonder if it will ground out the motor or just kill power? If it just kills the power. Then you could use the power or ground wire. Good find....

I'd be curious to see the results, too, with that unit... Replacing a servo with a simple box like that for dig would be awesome... Put it all into my electronics box and save space.... |

I wonder if it just cuts power or cuts power and grounds it out? I just want to cut power. I thought if locking the motor up, but it seems for my style of driving. It would hurt more then help.

Sounds cool, but $40.......little spendy compared to a switch/servo setup. Let us know how it turns out.

It isn't gonna dig real well if it just kills the power is it. A dig actually locks up the wheels, that is kind of the point.

RAM makes a simple rc switch that plugs into a servo port and is used to turn things on or off with a relay. sounds like its about the same thing.

This place sells receiver controlled relays as well: http://www.robotmarketplace.com/store_td-rc.html Just a standard relay that you could wire however you like. Seems you could wire the normally closed (NC) terminal to the ESC for normal use, then when you switched the relay it would open the connection to the ESC and connect the motor to the normally closed (NC) terminal which could be wired to whatever you like. shoot, for that matter if you have an old servo you could take the board, unsolder the motor and solder a relay up for a grand total of a couple bucks at radio shack for a relay.

I just wanted to let folks know there was a potential simple alternative to a servo and switch. The "Top Secret" was just a little fun'in... I'm sure there are a million ways to get this done. If nothing else, a few lightbulbs have come on for folks with clods and digs. |
