Crawled it with batts on the front axle for the first time today, and the difference was amazing, it just climbed straight up anything I pointed it at. Batteries on the knuckles is definately a good change.

Then I broke a shock mount, snapped a servo horn, and crushed a power lead. Time for something of a rebuild before the UK Nationals!

So, the rebuild before the Nationals never happened. Maybe I'd have got 1st if I'd done it sooner, but never mind.

Remember the old list?:
Quote:
Future plans: New batteries on knuckles (7 cells), bigger reciever pack, limit suspension flex (possibly heavier oil, too), bigger servo's, smaller pinions
Well, the batteries are on the knuckles, I have a 5 cell sub-c reciever pack, I limited the flex, fitted 1/4 scale servos (HS-805bb's ), and 9 tooth pinions.

Problem now is, when the servos get in a bind, they just flex the axle casing, C's, and knuckles...

...and I want more torque from the motors.

I'm going to try and tie the servo mount into the axle tube or case with a third "leg" I've seen it here and the Crawler Store has one but it's out of stock. My servo's just crank the axle stays up and down.

The rear suspension has been heavily modded. I think this setup will be much more stable, and stronger, too.

Anyway, here are a few pics, even if they're a bit poor:

This is the new amount of flex with the new setup, and it's much more gradual, and not as sloppy.

It's not been finished up yet, but this is pretty much all the welding done. Might add some bracing yet though.

The third leg idea will work well for you, I had my servos mounted up so high that the whole setup had inherant play.

Try mounting the servo flat against the side of the axle casing, using as many mounting points as you can.

theoretically i believe bends in the links won't have any affect on the geometry. the geometry of a link is a straight line from center of ball to center of ball. just think about it a bit. it makes sense.

Yep, the geometry is not affected at all. Think about it, even if you have a spiral link, it's still only a measurement from point A to point B, and if those measurements are equal then all is well.

Well, recently coursework has been eating all my free time, but today I couldn't have looked a Word Document in the eye.

Out to the garage I went.

I got around to starting on something I've been meaning to do for a while, making some rigid side panels that would slide over the rocks rather than be punctured by them.

Here's what I came up with:

wow, really nice build! Love the tuber.

If you'd be interested in either selling that one or making a replica for me, hit me with a pm

Same tubes still...

...just refined.

I've learned a helluva lot over the past few months.

Cheers Ant.

Wow, old thread. It's that time of year again, UK nats on Sunday.

Here's what i've got now

Made some big, strong and long rear links, from 12mm Delrin rod. Also bought a pair of Castle SideWinders, a pair of Castle BEC's, and some 3S LiPos (2 x 1500mah 25C and 1 x 2200mah 25C).

I've 'tested' this in the garden as it is now, and the power from the LiPos is unreal. Need more weight on the front end, methinks. Would recommend the SideWinder to anyone, great peice of kit, as are the BECs, and JRH (www.holmeshobbies.com) is a great seller.
