| integy portals reveiw
Just received them today and proceeded in the install. They are quite shiny and nice and heavy. Test fit them with stock tubes and integy tubes and they are a tight fit, no plastic bushings needed. My integy tubes came with brass bushings and appropiate kingpins which needed to be reused. The accompaying kingpins with the portals can be used with stock tubes with their spacer washers, and I guess with the newer integy tubes. The knuckle or portal is not a one peice design like their alum. knuckles. They now seperate the steering arm like the RC4WD ones. Except that integy notches the knuckles so that it may not move and sits in a groove with one screw holding it there. After install I gained about a 1/4" inch + of extra width. I also gained almost 3/4 inch axle diff clearance. Also the gear reduction is 1.6:1 not 16:1 as many have noted. But a little lower than the RC4WD ones. All togethor and it performed great, but with some hindrances. After install both tires turned the wrong direction and the servo reverse feature on the tq3 was used to corect this. Also I use 3/4" spacers adapters and they could not be installed due to Integy adding about 5/16" more thread to the axle. This bottomed out the axle nut, and so I had do construct some crude spacers out of some old brass bushings. What is weird is that 3 of 4 portals came with the extra long thread. But the fourth did not, it fit perfectly with the spacer adapter. Sorry no pics(although I did take pics), I do not have a star to post them. Hope this info helps others, happy new year everyone. 6 to 1.......realy? Thats still seems awful low, with stock gears that put you at 180 to 1. Way to low. I'm not saying you are wrong but I would like to see some internal pics of the gears, because when I look at it I don't see how it could be 6 to 1 with the spacing thats there. Any chance we could get some internal pics???

Sorry I miss typed, like they did. I meant to type 1.6:1. Already have the portals on, but I will give a shot of it looking at the inside of knuckle. |

Look at my clearance. My pimp cane copy has as much clearance now of a TCS stick at the chassis. |

1.6 to 1 sounds right. Now get some real tires on there and you will have something.

Actually I was waiting for you to upgrade to the Spektrum dx6i, and allow me to purchase your old dx6. Then I will upgrade the tires. |

I wouldn't count on it, atleast with out some modding/fabbing. So these should work on a TXT too I reckon. |

Those are pretty interesting! Any photos of the gears inside the portals? I'd like to see a picture of them opened up!

Putting the tire rod above the steering arms is a big no no on this setup. The 1/4 scales servos and width and weight are too much for the screws holding them to the arms. All that leverage snaps the screws way too easy. This way their is less leverage and when they snap, I can still back out from the other side. Been there done that. I need the right size allen to take the portals apart. Let me find that and I will post some internal shots. Last edited by flexmonger; 01-06-2008 at 02:43 PM. |

Install the integy alum. center cases and all that weight in a binding situation will do it.
